Wabash river
 

:DTook another newbie out this morning on the wabash river. We launched down at the cayauga Indiana boat ramp. We were into buffalo almost as soon as we got going. Hardly ever got out of sight of the bridge. He did not have a bow and went just to take pictures. After seeing me boat a nice 9.9 # grassie and then a 15.11 # grassie and several 9# buffalo. He was willing to give it a try. Was not too bad about 5 misses and he stuck an nice 7# buffalo. He is not hooked. I also nailed a 42" long nose gar and a small one. The the high light was just at the bridge I shot my first big head in the wabash. Granted it was a small one, but still was a big head. Now KBI-Prez will not be able to sleep. Having big heads less than 20 miles from his house. I only live about 12 miles from there. Got to like that. We were only on the water 3 hours. Both had plans. I am already trying to figure out how to get back this afternoon.

You know I rode my my bike across the Wabash the other day and to my amazement, I thought the water looked clear enough to actually see down in it a little bit. Is the claritywide spreadfor the most part or is it spotty, I think I might smell a nite trip coming.

No the water clarity is terriable. The only way we could see them was they were up sucking on the scum. You could see their mouths and just shot below it. When I shot the big head that is what he was doing. I just though it was another buffalo. KbI-Prez and I are headed out in the morning.

Ive been shooting alot of buffalo carp just north of the Montezuma bridge on the Wabash. I have shot a couple nice grass carp also. Let me guess, you find a log jam and look for mouths sucking down that gunk. Thats how Ive been doing it anyways. Nice to know that Im not the only one around here that does it because I am the only one that I know of. I live in Hillsdale incase you were wondering.

Just wondering, but have you seen any of those jumping Asian carp yet. Im starting to see them more often in our parts.

Roadkill, two years ago when we fished down by Darwin Ferry, IL, there were several of the silvers and a guy I know who comercially fishes the Wabash tells me he's getting more and more of them in his nets all the time.

We did not see any silver's today. I have seen them there before but few in numbers. The buffalo were everywhere. We are headed out again in the morning.

Roadkillwarrior, Just looked at the map, we are shooting one bridge north of you. Where 234 crosses the Wabash. The ram is right under the bridge. Also if you go way north of where you are putting in. Go up to the hot water discharge for the Newport power plant there are lots of Nice Buffalo there. Again they are up sucking up the scum. We have been out several times and was almost ready to give it up. Then today was the best day that we have had. be looking for ya on the water.
