Default Hunt out at Evergreen

Today was the start of my turn to hunt out at Comlara. Only 12 deer had been taken out there so far. (out ofabout 60hunters)

It's an antlerless area only.

So of course, this is the deer that came by at 5 yards.

He's just a small buck, but he looked tasty to me.

Aw man!
Doesn't that figure? ...and his rack would have made such a nice toilet paper holder too. [:@]
The way you've been shootingthat new Bowtech, he'd have been steaks for sure.

The first time I bowhunted a doe only area, I saw a young spike and a real nice WIDE 11-pointer. I didn't even think about drawing on him, but it sure sucked knowing that he would probably be the last deer I saw all day. He was.

I feel for you chick.
Next time.

That's not the whole story.

The evening hunt was a quicky. I no sooner set up and I saw a bunch of deer headed out into the field. They were headed the wrong direction but then something spooked them and they were headed my way. Really, really fast.

Some deer stayed out in the field but about a half dozen ran right under and aroundmy stand. Only one stopped. A button buck. I had about a second to make the choice to shoot or not because the deer wasn't going to stand there for long. Hey, it's an antlerless only area, and there weren't any antlers on his head. I put my pin on his heart and sent the arrown on it's way.

The arrow went just where it was supposed to and the deer made a couple of bounds into the thick stuff and then looked around to try and figure out what happened. Then he keeled over. He didn't go 25 yards.

I couldn't be happier. (and he was easy to drag out)

Impact..

This buck appeared about 2 minutes after I shot. Sorry for the crappy pic, the camera kept focusing on the branches. (it's a decent ten pointer... and of course not alegal deer on this property)

Yee haw girl!!!

Here I was all "you'll get one next time", and there ya go popping one like a balloon. They sure do drop fast when you let the blood out of the right holes.

Good job. Way to stick with it.

That stampede sure had to be interesting. I've never seen anything like that. Only a few at a time moving slow while I'm hunting. At least they move slow until they smell my coffee breath.

Very nice lady! Nice shooting! Nice to see the pass-thru. How far was the shot? I remember you telling me, but I forgot how far.

Alrighty Kendall, don't let her show you up.

I better get on one too for that matter. I've only had one within bow-range this season so far, but he stayed under a tree the whole time.

Good goin'!!

Ewww. Bloody! That's great. Last Thursday night I took my first shot ever at a doe and it was my first miss ever too! Right over the top. I swear that twig jumped up and hit my arrow in midflight! Those trees are quick.

Thanks guys!

Hey Mark, now you have your first miss out of the way. Those twigs are fast, you have to watch out for them. (ask Kendall about jumping telephone poles, they're really bad)
