Default Unique Elephant Hunting Opportunity in Namibia

Shona Hunting Adventures has been successful in acquiring one of only two, North Western Arid Region Trophy Elephants, in the Loxodonta Africana Conservancy (LAC) area. To be hunted during the 2017 hunting season.

These Elephant form part of a joint initiative between the Namibian Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET) as well as the Loxodonta Africana Commercial Conservancy. It is the first time Trophy Elephant permits have been issued to the LAC in order to address the issue of Human Wildlife Conflict on Commercial Farm Land in the North-Western Part of Namibia.
Namibia is regarded internationally as the “Poster Child” of Africa with regard to its wildlife management policies on both private land as well as communal based conservancy areas. The country has won several International awards for the profiling of their groundbreaking conservation actions that has resulted in wildlife populations recovering to well above sustainable numbers, with major benefits towards the rural communal conservancy areas. These prestigious awards include Markhor Award for Outstanding Conservation Performance in 2012, the WWF – Gift to the Earth Award in 2013, and the United Nations World Trade Organization (UNWTO) Awards for Excellence and Innovation in Tourism in 2015.

The Loxodonta African Commercial Conservancy was founded in 1999 by the Commercial Farmers around Kamanjab, growing over the years to cover about 600 000 acres of livestock farm land. The main function of the Conservancy is to assist the Namibian Government in managing wildlife as a valuable natural resources on Commercial Farm land. Included in the functions of the LAC it is also managing Human Wildlife Conflict that includes livestock losses through predation from lions, hyenas, jackals and other smaller predators. Its function has also been to mediate between commercial farmers and MET when it comes to farming with elephant presence and the conflict that arises. Both MET and LAC, along with the Namibian Agricultural Union and the Namibian Breweries, have contributed in the collaring of 6 female elephants out of different groups in the area. Through the joined research it was proven that there is a stable growing amount of elephants in the area and as a result, of what has been an 18 year project, the two trophy elephant permits were issued. Proceeds of this hunt will go back into the farming community, a small reimbursement for years of financial losses. A percentage of the proceeds will also be used by the LAC for future conservation effort.

Shona Hunting Adventures's home base, Tualuka Safari Lodge, is situated within the LAC area. The property has been part of the LAC area since 2000. Johann Veldsman who is the co-owner of Tualuka Safari Lodge and Shona Hunting Adventures has been residing in the property since it formed part of the LAC. He is a qualified DG PH in Namibia, conducting hunts throughout Namibia including the Zambesi/Caprivi region.

Furthermore Shona Hunting Adventures is part of the CHC (Conservation and Hunting Combined) consortium who is a group of like-minded outfitters that promotes the sustainable utilization of natural resources in natural areas through selective Trophy/Conservation Hunting. This is achieved by upholding ethical hunting practices, taking informed decisions that is based on facts, whilst trying to educate the uninformed about the various methods of maintaining and managing an area and population. The modern day Professional Hunter is one of the last true conservationists left in Africa and we believe it is up to us to play a key role in protecting our wildlife for future generations.
This hunt is for a client who wants to contribute towards a much larger conservation picture and support the Loxodonta Africana Conservancy as well as the Namibia Government in the sustainable utilization of its natural resources.
Your contribution does make a difference!
