deer hunt

I know this is a late review but if your looking for a awesome hunt at a price you can't beat give brian a call.I hunted early season which can be hard sometimes but I saw deer every day I hunted and even saw 9 different bucks in one night.I know the buck I killed a nice 6 pointer isn't the biggest buck in kansas but I missed a 160 class 10 pointer at 25 yards nobodys fault but mine brian put me in the right stand I just didn't do my job but that's hunting. After I filled my buck tag I was trying to fill a doe tag and saw a monster that would push 180 out in a soybean field.I promise you will not find a harder working guide out there. To me your not hunting with a guide your hunting with a friend that's how he treats you.We even filled a fall turkey tag while I was there lol and 2 doe tags.If anybody passes brian up for another kansas outfitter they are crazy.I am booked for this year and the next 20 years if kansas gives me tags that long.

zmax hunter 07-21-2011 08:25 PM

Nasty is back, hopefully someone will get him this season. Last year he was a mid 150 buck.

zmax hunter 07-28-2011 10:39 PM

Sticker, he is still growing.

zmax hunter 08-07-2011 07:34 PM

This is a buck I have been calling Midnight.

zmax hunter 08-11-2011 07:53 PM

Another non-typical

deer hunt

Well just returned from another great hunt with brian.for the second year I missed another monster buck at 25 yards.I can't say enough about brian and the work he does for you.I have never seen a guide work so hard for you.you will see plenty of deer and if you can hold out you will get your chance at a shooter.the only drawback I can find about the hunt is the time flies by to fast to me.like I said last year you feel like your hunting with your best buddy cause that's how it feels.do yourself a favor and give brian a call you wont be disappointed

zmax hunter 11-25-2011 04:39 AM

2011 has been a successful season with many big buck sightings and 3 kills over 150"

We have also had 4 missed shots at big bucks and 3 smaller ones killed.

Also, 5 Does have been added to the freezers

I killed this buck locally, not from one of my guide properties

zmax hunter 12-01-2011 04:19 AM

A Maryland rifle hunter killed this clean 10 on the opening day of gun season.

Huntman19 12-05-2011 08:10 AM

What will that clean 10pt score?

zmax hunter 12-05-2011 11:01 AM

He gross green scored 141 4/8". The hunter was shooting a .270. He saw the buck low in a creek bottom and the buck walked just out of sight. The hunter slowly stalked thru the timber about 15y and was able to spot the buck again. After a few minutes of looking him over, he decided to take the shot. The buck took 1 step forward and fell. I believe it was about a 65y shot.

This hunter also killed and donated 2 Does which was very kind of him.
His buddy shot a nice 10 pt as well on the last day of his hunt. Unfortunately, he has a broken G3

zmax hunter 01-19-2012 02:05 PM

I have added another 400 acre farm to hunt this year. It features 2 creek bottoms which join together toward the south and has a 3rd small dry creek which joins the west creek near the north end.

ldeemer 01-19-2012 06:05 PM

We need pics zmax we need pics lol

zmax hunter 02-24-2012 05:15 PM

With the 2012 shed season underway, i found a very nice 4pt. left side today. Shed totals 71 6/8" and has a 14" G2, if the other side matches, the buck would push 160 as an 8 point.

zmax hunter 03-21-2012 07:37 AM

Found the left side to Sticker, it grosses 77". Hope to find the other side soon. Possibly a 170 class buck last year.

zmax hunter 04-09-2012 08:49 PM

A couple photos of the sheds i found this spring.
I am mostly booked, but do have a few dates available.

The Kansas tag application period runs till april 27th this year. so far,.there has been a 100% success rate in drawing the tag for my area. If there are any left-over tags not sold thru the initial draw, the left-overs will be for sale on a 1st come 1st serve basis,..usually in June,..they sellout rather quickly at that time.

Farmer_88 05-07-2012 08:24 AM

I sent you a pm.

zmax hunter 06-11-2012 08:41 PM

There are left-over tags available which go on sale June 18th, I have a few open dates available, early to mid oct. and i have room for 2 bowhunters over the week of Thanksgiving. I have started to run trail cams,..still very early to see significant growth, but the first time i puleed a card, i had 10 different bucks on 1 property and 3 on another.

Best of Luck where ever you all go this fall,..the 2012 season is quickly approaching!

zmax hunter 09-29-2012 12:50 PM

This past Monday evening i scouted a property, I took a lawn chair and sat in a milo field overlooking a treeline along a creek. I lost count with over 13 bucks moving about and many Does. One buck appeared to be a nice 10pt.

Later that night, i explained to a Muzzleloader hunter what i had seen, we made plans to hunt the property the next evening, i went along to watch and enjoy the hunt with him.

We had 4 Does come out at 6p, at 6:30p, the nice 10 walked out of the trees, we had ranged the tree line at 196 yards. The hunter was using a nice bi-pod rest, i watched as the buck dropped in his tracks, then the smoke obscured my view. When we walked up to the buck, he was a very nice 11 pointer, both base measurements were over 5" ,..scoring over 150, this hunter has killed 2 bucks in 2 years that score in the 150's hunting here with me.

His partner had a chance with a tall tined 10pt, but unfortunately missed his shot.

I am just getting started for the 2012 season, bowhunters will be arriving soon, followed by a couple of rifle season hunters.

This ML hunter and his friend have been here with me the last 2 seasons, they are planning a MN hunt for next year. I am looking to fill their week for next season and possibly beyond. I currently only take 2 ML hunters per season and highly prefer that they be part of the same group.

If you have any questions, please call me at 785-392-7230, or send an email to [email protected]

zmax hunter 09-29-2012 01:11 PM

Here are a couple of the bucks hunters are hoping to get in their sights.

zmax hunter 01-15-2013 02:41 PM

Now booking hunts for 2013.

I am looking for a few bow hunters. Shed season is almost here.

hunts

How much are the muzzleloader hunts, and the bow hunts? How many days are they for?

VTBoneCollector 03-16-2013 02:36 PM

Wish I hadn't already booked a hunt.

zmax hunter 06-04-2013 01:07 PM

I am booked for the 2013 season, thank you all for your interest.

We have had a very nice cool spring this year with ample rainfall. I have food plots planted and continue to make stand adjustments from what hunters eyes have been seeing in years past. I think this season is looking to be a very good year. We had little to no ehd in my area last fall, deer numbers appear to be very good.

The buck i call Nasty is back for the 4th year. Past hunters have seen him and even had him in range. Seems like he has 9 lives. He should be at least a 7.5yo this year and this is the 1st time for him to have a droptine.

The main frame 10pt with forked G1's, was killed last year by a bowhunter, grossing in the 182", ending a 3 yr history.

zmax hunter 11-25-2013 05:07 PM

Its been a very good archery season. 5 of 9 bowhunters connected on nice bucks. 2 other hunters had bad shots ..i believe both of those bucks will live. and the other 2 bowhunters had opportunity but couldnt complete the shot.
Seeing a PA hunter take Nasty home has been the highlight of the season. He scored 173 6/8" with just under 43" of mass.
Congrats again Chris!

An awesome 8,. which scored 153 7/8"

This buck had broken brows, would have scored in the low 140's

We had to get the boat to go after this nice buck

A bowhunter killed this 120 class buck while working a scrape, dropping him in his tracks.

zmax hunter 01-21-2014 09:17 AM

Now booking bow hunts for 2014. Please see post #4 for pricing and details.

Topgun 3006 01-21-2014 11:30 AM

Very seldom do you see an 8 that will break 150" and that buck is a hog with unreal mass! Too bad I'm into the mule deer scene out in Wyoming for a few years yet, but you obviously are the place to go to for a great whitetail hunt and sound like a great, knowledgeable host. Good luck to you and your hunters in the 2014 season. I also can't believe that you haven't raised your rates a dime from that 2009 post!!!

zmax hunter 01-23-2014 10:24 PM

Thank you Topgun, i appreciate your compliment. I try to treat people how i would want to be treated if i were paying for a hunt. Good luck to you out west.

The 173 and the 153 both came from the same property, it has always produced great bucks,..150+,.. Hunters continued to see other very nice bucks on the property.

zmax hunter 02-07-2014 07:59 PM

I do still have a few places during the rut open.

A few more reviews can be seen here.

2014 Season is under way and we got started with a nice one.
I have a couple here from Wisconsin, the lady drew first blood, killing a nice 10pt, grossing 153 1/4", Her 1st bow kill ever!

Obviously, I like to bow hunt too! I was out just this morning and had a very cool 5 minute encounter at 8 yards with a large framed heavy 10pt, he should be in the 160 class. I was able to take both pics and video.
I was walking in about 30min before sunrise and had covered about 650 yards. i first saw the buck from about 50y and instantly dropped to one knee. I nocked an arrow and layed my bow in front of me to raise my binocs to look him over,..he slowly came my way and stopped to work the licking branch and hit the scrape for several minutes.
I passed shooting this awesome Ks buck because,..well, its Kansas and I know there can be bigger bucks, and,..I cant kill a great buck if I only kill a good one.
Just to clarify, i am not hunting the properties i guide for deer. As can be seen with post 19,42, & 65,..it took 4 years for a hunter to get the chance to kill Nasty. I do some late season Doe control

zmax hunter 05-14-2015 09:10 PM

Im booked for 2015, will return with updates as the season progresses.

Everything is looking great in my area of Kansas, we have had decent timely rains for most of the summer, no flooding like some areas of the state. Crops are doing really well. Will be planting a nice 1/3 acre food plot soon.
Just started running a couple cameras and found this nice buck. Unfortunately, a spider is on my camera lens, lol, have more pics of the buck, but its almost all spider!

zmax hunter 11-30-2015 09:23 AM

This young man killed his 1st buck with a bow. The main frame 8pt grosses 173 7/8" with 41" of awesome mass!!

zmax hunter 12-01-2015 06:02 PM

2nd and 3rd weeks of november are booked. I have openings available for the 1st (oct 30-nov 6th) and 4th (nov. 20th-27th) week of november. Thank you for your interest.

zmax hunter 12-02-2015 09:06 AM
