Inexpensive Hunts
#1
I've seen some very expensive hunts that are very cheap, and some inexpensive hunts that are as good as you can get!
I sometimes offer some inexpensive hunts, just to fill in where there are openings or just because I have friends who have good hunting land who want deer thinned to save crops. They are not concerned about making money from hunters, just saving money by saving crops, by reducing the deer herd. They are farmers who do not hunt and do not trust other local outfitters. Believe me word travels fast when an outfitter makes a farmer unhappy.
They call me because they trust me and they want results without being overrun with too many hunters. I work a full time job, I don't need to make a fortune off my hunts. A few hundred dollars is a big deal to me, and I want to earn my money and help my friends. I can't advertise hunts so high that I won't get takers. I need hunters and I need deer killed. Your first hunt with me will be inexpensive and if the price goes up you'll understand why and know it's worth it the second year!
Now I happen to live in about the best big buck country around. Big bucks are everywhere for the best hunters, and the lucky hunters too. I know good quality land and don't put people on poor quality land like some local outfitters do. I don't flood the land with hunters and lie about big bucks taken or make guarantees or give odds. I put hunters on good land and we will see if they are good hunters or lucky ones! Many are. Some are not, but all return.
Like a hunter last year told me, "it's about the chance to see a big buck! Give me an opportunity, thats all I want." He killed a good sized deer about noon the second day. I've seen bigger but he was happy. His deer had 11 inch tines and one 8 inch brow tine. You may ask him yourself, and maybe he's had it scored by now. Two other hunters along with him saw and passed on very good bucks hoping for better and went home without any, except, they all killed does. All three have paid in full and will hunt again this year and probably next. They were very pleased to say the least! Shane, the leader of the group agreed to give me a refference. I hope it's a good one!
Several outfitters operate in my area. Some are very good. Some are very lucky, some can't be trusted. All charge too much in my opinion, trying to live year round off of a few weeks working. The big money is in the rifle deer season. I make a few thousand extra per year offering the same quality land, but not overhunting it. I don't play the games of putting different groups of hunters in different hotels and hoping they don't meet and find out the land is double booked and they could just almost see each other in their stands if they were allowed to move around. I don't ****** you to and from a pre positioned stand and tell you you can't come down or move without calling me because the insurance won't allow it. I generally put 1-2 people per one hundred acres. Last year the three hunters previously mentioned had 400 acres to roam at will. They all chose to hunt together within 80 acres and all had good success. 320 acres went untouched. The best part of the land in my opinion, was not hunted. The second week as they left another pair of hunters took a good eight point within the same area.
If you have any questions or doubt any of my posts, by all means call me. Inexpensive hunts are not always cheap, or unworthy, and Cheap hunts may cost a fortune if you trust the wrong person. Call me at 660-373-0074 to ask about anything from hunting and lodging to restaurants nearby. And yes I can still take two more muzzleloader hunters at $350 each. season is Dec.19-29 2009 Don't be afraid to call, More spots may open up at any time.

The owner of my local Archery Pro Shop here in NJ has property out there not far from the Iowa state line, not sure if he is near you or not, but from what he tells me and shows me, gorgeous area, great bucks, great hunting.
