I am looking around for a new ladderstand. I have an old sturdy one I just bought from Cabelas and new Lancer 17 foot. I am not really thrilled with either;
The one I bought from Cabelas (don't remember the brand) is very sturdy with dual side tubes for the ladder. The ladder portion is about 18" wide and the sections bolt together with 10 bolts per pair of sections. The platform is about 18" x 30" and has a folder up seat and shooting rail.
Pros: Very sturdy, no tree support on the ladder required.
Cons: A little narrow
The Lancer 17 foot I bought this year from Menards.
Pros: A bit wider than my other stand. About a 20"x 24" platform, flip up seat and shooting rail.
Cons: A little flimsy, I don't feel as safe in this stand as I do with my other.
When it comes to equipment, I look for well built, safe, and something that will hold up. Cost, weight and height are not a concern. I set my stands up by pulling them up with my 4 wheeler. The higher the stand the better; I want to be above those sneaky deer noses. I am primarily a gun hunter in Wisconsin but I have started bow hunting.
So now to my questions;
1. What do folks recommend considering my desires above?
2. Are there other manufacturers other than those listed on Sportsmen Guide?
I've been considering the Big Game Nexus as it looks like it is pretty sturdy with its oval tubes and big enough (being a 2 person). I think there is a ladder extension and skirt for it, so this would provide the height and concealment. this is an expensive setup and I am wondering if there are other brands out there that I am not aware of.

Hi JayNak,
If you are looking for a strong, safe, and durable climbing system id recommend the Gravity Forward Climbing Sticks made by Hurricane Safety Systems.
Its for hang on tree stands, but gives you the same effect of a ladder stand without making noise.
Heres a youtube link that displays them.

Those look pretty good Blake. I was curious and looked them up. Nice design but at 48.5 lbs the 20' model seems awfully heavy. Carrying that and a hand on stand to a stand location would be a real chore. I guess if you were hunting private property or close to a trail where you can get you ATV it wouldn't be bad.
