I have Butler creek flip ups on all my scopes. Make sure you have a small pc of rubber as a stop to avoid noise when they flip up.

I wouldn't have a scoped rifle without them, great product and very practical IMO.

I guess I'm the black sheep, good product if you have time to use them, bad if you use that time to get the covers up and the bull of a life time is already busted through the timber, and you get no shot.

I don't use scope covers except when they are in the gun safe.
Never had a problem with not using them, had problems when using them.

I don't keep them closed all the time, if the weather is stable or anticipating a shot opportunity they are open (stalking, calling, etc). Only when required are they closed and then a scope full of snow or debris, fogged, etc is no better then a lens cover! Bonus is being attached to the scope when I come in from a day and need to wipe down my rifle I have no worry about solutions or oil contact the lens surface and degrading the coatings.

To me they are very important. Not only protecting your lens from dirt, dust and chemicals. During rain they keep your lens dry.Once my rifle is taken out of the gun case on my 4 wheeler they stay opened.I'll close them to pull my rifle up to my climber.Once I'm settled in they remain open weather permitting. They are a great accessory. For the 7.00ea (+ -) they are it's a good investment.I have them on all my hunting rifles and scoped handguns.I wouldn't take a rifle out without them.

Farmanimal that will teach you. I did the samething. I was in my stand probably a half hour when I realized I hadn't opened them.No I wasn't ready to fire. Now I double check myself. That won't happen a second time.
These things happen.Just grin and bear it.
