I can’t comment on BassPro but I can say that Cabela’s does have excellent customer service and fairly good price. I always find one reason or another to go to Cabela’s and always look at there website to compare prices.

Cabelas for me whenever possible, the prices are almost identical and I don't have to pay taxes when I order from Cabelas.

Cabelas, hands down hunting or fishing!

I use both. Usually BassPro more often since there is a BassPro shop a hour and a half away.If Cabela's were close by it would be the other way around.

Prices are roughly the same, they also have the same products, but I always seem to goto CABELAS...cant wait for the new store to be built within 10mins of my home here in NJ.....come to think of it, I will have to open a 2nd mortage, LOL

i really love and use both but for whatever reason it always seems i get better deals from bass pro. just bought a muzzleoader for 99$. cabelas had it for 149$ i know im probably in the minority based on this same question last year. the cabelas catalogs are certainly bigger but the things i didnt like is when i called the 800 number the woman said cabelas dont price match . when you buy items from bass pro-red head you get points saved twords next prchases. with cabelas i think you have to use there credit card only. i get my items in about the same time. some think one is faster than the other but i really think its where you live. i rarely have a problem with either.ive been to the cabelas store in hamburg pennsy and its awesome. the only complaint i have is with the bargain cave. if they think taking 20 cents off a product is a good deal i dont know what there thinking?all i saw was opened up crap all over the place at not much of a mark down. my loyalty is with who-s got a better price

I like 'em both but I generally order more stuff from Cabela's than BPS. I don't have to pay sales tax from Cabela's but do from BPS which can be a factor sometimes on higher priced items. They both have their places though. I have a Cabelas relatively close to me in K.C. Kansas and a BPS under construction in Independence, MO which is closer yet so life don't get any better for the outdoorsman than that!:D;)

I like the Cabelas brand better than Red Head/ Basss Pro. Both are good on returns but I find myself ordering from cabelas most of the time.

Cabela's

We have a store aprox 40 minutes from home and just enjoy Cabelas more. But I shop Gander Mountain too, they have some good sales at times.

Cabela's for hunting and flyfishing. Bass has never had what I'm looking for.

Cabelas. The Bass Pro guys don't seem to know as much about hunting like the Cabela guys do.

Cabela's-
I have ordered from both and Cabelas delivers to me much faster. However, BPS did have a special with no interest and payments stretched over 6 months.

Bass Pro-
Yea the prices are about the same. But when you go to a Hunting Classic, you will realize ho much Bass Pro cares about your bussiness. I went to one this fall in St. Louis, and it was awesome.

We've got a Cabela's in KC so that's the place for me. I think I'd live inside it if they'd let me.

I've shopped the catalog return store in Springfield too. Lots of things are a lot cheaper than regular price. Cabelas lets you browse the "Bargain Cave" of returned items online. Do you know if Bass Pro does too? I got a bow case there for about half price and couldnt find a thing wrong w/ it. I'd like to get another, but dont want to have to drive 400 miles to do it.

atrautweiler 01-21-2005 08:40 AM

RE: Cabela's or Basspro

I haven't seen anything online that translates to what is in the catalog returns store in Springfield. I would add that if you buy a fishing rod or reel be very careful. They sell retipped rods next to return rods so bring a tape measure and check that the stated length is correct. Also play with the reel long enough to be sure it's good. That said I have gotten many good rods and reels there for a fraction of the price. Shoes and boots are also very good there. I picked up their 200 dollar kangaroo hunting boots for 90 bucks, brand new. But I admit, I wear an 11 and it is a real hit or miss deal on the shoes which is why I pull in whenever I'm down there. For you that doesn't help but I'm only an hour away.

cabelas by far, they have the best customer service. Take something back 2 years later and say you arent happy they will gladly replace it without any questions asked.

RE: Cabela's or Basspro

Well, being in San Antonio, I will soon be able to find out. They are building a new Cabelas just north of us (~50 miles up the highway) which opens this summer and it was just announced, they will be building the largest Texas BassPro shop just 10 miles down the road opening at the end of this year or early 2006. So I'm excited about finally seeing these stores, as I have only read about them and have seen them on the internet. The only problem with Cabela's, is that now ordering online will cost me both S&H and tax now :-(

Guess, I'll save up for my roadtrip.

I go to Bass Pro alot because HQ is where I live. I go to Cabelas when I can but the closest is 200 miles away. Bass Pro has some better sales but on normal price stuff, I like Cabelas selection. I like Cabelas clothing better than Red Head too.
