summit viper or tree lounger?
I know that I recently posted about the tree lounger. I have narrowed my search down to these two. I am wondering if the bar system that the tree lounger is better than the cable system on the viper.. I am not the greates with heights so i am looking for the safest stand, one that is fairly light and one that will last a few years. Can anyone recommend one to me. Thanks in advance!

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Well i have a friend who is scared of heights. he bought a API mvp and didnt like it cause he felt uncomfortable . he bought a ole man and the same.
well he finally broke down and bought a tree lounge. he still has it oh about 6 years now. he says he climbs higher and feels safe. if this guy feels safe then they are safe. like i said before i am going to have one . i have a api preditor and a api grand slam supreme and the tree lounge on a pole beats them both for comfort. oh yeah i have palyed with that buddys lounge and it feels just as good on a tree. i did have to get used to how it climbs. get the tree lounge!! |
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
I had a tree lounge and did not like it.
Pros.....VERY COMFORTABLE,VERY SAFE CONS....VERY LOUD TO CLIMB WITH.....PAIN TO SET UP...TOO MANY PINS AND SCREWS.....I SLEPT TOO MUCH IN IT.......MORE DIFFICULT TO CLIMB WITH. It is very safe in the tree. If it were'nt such a Pain to set up and climb with I would still have it. I replaced mine with a Summit, and I am very glad I did it. I feel very safe in it. You also get a Seat O' the Pants harnes, which it is also used to climb with because it dubs as a linesman harness. With any climber...a lot had to do with the tree you climb. You need to be smart about it. The manufacturer will say the same thing. NO DEAD TREES.....don't climb trees that have loose bark. Straighter the tree the better. Good luck with you decision. IMO I'd go with the summit. I've enjoyed mine more than the tree lounge. FYI...if you do get the tree lounge...paint those knobs a bright color. IF you drop one in the dark you'll thank yourself! Although, I think I remeber seeing that treelounge is selling them colored now. j |
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
I have them both. As far as the tree lounge goes I got mine ten yrs or more ago so I don't know if they have changed them that much but the 1 I have is HEAVY. It is comfortable, safe and nice to shoot out of. I have the bow platform so I used it for both gun & bow. It does take a little more time to set up but climbing is not a problem. I never had it slip on me. The viper is much more of a portable stand. It is light, comfortable but not as comfortable as the tree lounge. It sets up easy and never had a problem with the cables. Easy to climb and grips the tree nice. I shoot both gun & bow out of it and use it now instead of the tree lounge because of the weight. In fact I have been consideriung selling the tree lounge on ebay.

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
I SAY GO WITH THE TREE LOUNGE! LOL
i have one of the older tree lounge stands and have no problem whatsoever with it as far as climbing. you will not feel safer in any other stand i promise. i have tried the summit and like it also but you will like the lounge better. and don't be turned off by them telling you you will fall asleep too much. if you do you will and can't fall out of the tree lounge and the summit it is possible. you should always wear a harness of some sort no matter which stand. my tree lounge is one of the old ones that with the bowhunting adaptor it weighs 31lbs. i think the newer ones weigh 19lbs. i dont see any reason for me too change because i just put the wheels on mine, load it with my gear and dolly everything in the woods with me. a summit can't do that. treelounge even hauls deer out for you. if you get the lounge get the bowhunting adaptor and the wheels. you'll love it. jmo sry for the long wind |
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Not a big fan of summit stands but would take one over the treelounge. Look at Timbertall...Ol'Man or Lone Wolf Alpha Sit and Climber. Your supposed to be quiet going up a tree if you plan on shooting anything worthwhile a Treelounge is too noisy and on the right bark the new Model will kill you. Old Treelounges were extremely safe but still noisy and very heavy.

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
I have owned OL MAN, and API and I sold them all to get my second and newest Summitt. I have NEVER been as compfortable nor felt so safe untill I got into my Viper. Yhat is the best tree biter I have ever used!!!

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
I love my tree lounge!!! It takes a little extra time to get into, but you can sit all day and be comfortable the entire day, IMO, that makes the extra couple of minutes worth it!

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
oeh is a tree lounge hater. you'll never turn me away get the tree lounge you won't be sry. i could care less about mine making a little noise because i climb in the dark and kill deer every year. old elk hunter keeps talking about noise. he must climb after daylight when the deer are under the stand
|
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
The tree lounge I had was like trying to shoot off the end of a diving board and the diving board would have been easier to drag out in the woods and up a tree.
I've owned a bunch from cheapo hang ons to Bakers, tree loungers, and Loggys. Now I've found what I'm looking for, Summit Viper XLS. Wanna buy a couple Loggy Bayou climbers? |

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Do you argue about Politics like this?, can you not accept what someone who has actually owned one thinks of them or is that not possible. You like your stand fine and good luck with it. Like I said before I have owned 3 of the old ones which I got a really good deal on and 1 new one. The new one with the Leveler was a Killer and TL didn't want to refund my money or exchange it or anything . They denied there was a problem with it. Now bear in mind they changed management and they went to the new design leveler when they did so that could be the problem. The old management was fine at TL wish he had never sold the company.

oldcrustyelkhunter[8D][8D];):D
Bob and margaret Hice own tree lounge again. it's on the website that they have it again. i wonder if when they sold it there was some clause about maintaining the reputation or something but it says they are running it again. And i think we have had this discussion about T/L before if i recall. |
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
oldcrustyelkhunter I thought I was being nice after being addressed the way I was Soark. I am glad they own the company again did not know that and thanks for the info. The other company that owned them should never have been in the treestand business. I have a link showing recall for this leveler . I am not surprised more people didn't get hurt and also that it is no longer produced. [link]http://www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PREREL/prhtml04/04137.html[/link] |
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
GO WITH THE VIPER XLS...............GREAT STAND AND GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! TRUST ME. I dont like the tree lounge due to the whole set-up thang.........too much when your hot and sweaty from walking to your stand and now you have to deal with this big thing? I like it safe and simple.

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Oh oldelkhunter it's all in good fun.
But wonder what you wrote before you edited it? ![]() |
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Just dug up the link to the safety problem and posted it here from the new Treelounge site

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Men: I didn't try to start a fight here! I just want to get the best stand I can. Still thinking about it! Sure sounds like people are divided between the two stands. I guess I am leaning towards the tree lounge for I can use it for a deer cart if I add the wheels. Thanks! Keep the comments coming

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
oeh my apoligies. i did not even know that the stand you are talking about existed as the new one i bought back in june is in fact the old style back again with the hices. i do see that the hices are the ones that have made the recall of those cheaper foriegn made stands and i also understand that if you have one of them that tree lounge will refund total purchase price or give you the new er old tree stand in exchange. anyway i love mine and good hunting. and to you havelockspartacus, you will love the tree lounge hope you enjoy

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Thats what makes the world great is we all have different likes and dislikes. and sometimes it is kind of fun to argue about it. some folks (not intended for you old elk)really get hot about things. i get really nasty about polaris junk, i hate them. but hey some like them and it's kind of fun to poke at them for being stupid. :D
But if my wife wouldnt rag on me so bad i would order one today. she says i have to many hunting toys and i spend to much money on hunting. blah blah but i have to live with her.;):D |
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Still one problem with them Soark..they are too noisy and are sometimes a bit destructive on the trees . You know how much a treehugger I am.:D
|
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
You know oldelkhunter i am just gonna have to be one of those that has to see for myself.:D
|
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Soark thats the only way to find out if anything really works. I did notice their base price is down a bit and that is good. One thing I like about them is their accessories especially the padded seat and the gun racks.

RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
I had the api bowhunter that got stolen So I bought an ole man did not like it gave it awayso i bought a treelounge it was to heavy and to much worknot to metion very loud, now it sits in the house collecting dust, now I have the summit bushmaster it only weighs 16lbs. and it is so secure on the tree I kick myself for wasting all that money on the others. It may not be as comfortable but good enough for me at 1/2 the price
|
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
i bought one last year and i will never hunt from any other stand it is defanatly an all day stand and it is comfertable and safe and it is very quiet i climbed up the tree one afternoon last year and when i got up to the hight that i wanted to hunt at i hadent even pulled my bow up yet and when i looked down there were 2 decent bucks standing within 10 yards of me but my bow was still on the ground
|
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
Same thing happened to me this year and I used an Ol man climber which is extremely quiet climbing . Whats your point ? It TL is not a quiet stand by any means so you were lucky in that regard.
|
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
hey ol man climbers are good to i had one befor i got my TL but i came out of it one afternoon and when i went to go up it the next morning it was gone[:@][:@][:@]
|
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
The TreeLounge is not a noisy stand, once you learn how to use it! I've had deer walking under me within minutes of climbing trees with the TL on several occasions!
|
RE: summit viper or tree lounger?
I've had both stands and my vote goes to the Summit. PM if you have specific questions as to why......................
