I have used a Simmons Aetec for a few years and have been pleased with it.

I've heard that the simmons white tail classic is very clear and bright and i think at cabelas they had a sale for around $120 might be worth checking out.

Another option not mentioned is a fixed power scope! You may be able to get a better optically speaking fixed vs a cheaper variable, less to go wrong. Also given the fact many do not change the power setting when hunting, it really doesn't leave you in a hole...except possibly when at the range or if extreme long range or short range situations are the norm. For most average hunting situations a 6 power fixed would suffice.

Just something to think about that may allow you to get better optics for less cake. I may suggest checking ebay or local gun shops for a Redfield or M6 Leupolds. If buying new I would say look at the Weavers or Loopy's, haven't heard much bad about either fixed products! Actually I even own a Tasco in 4 fixed and it is rock solid, something that is rarely said about anything Tasco makes - AKA "TRASHCO"(BTW this scope is 15 years old and see's limited action on a 22 now!)

I can't add much to what the others have recommended. I like my VX-l real well. I have had real good luck with my Swift scopes as well. Best Bang for the BUCK to me though is Bushnell. From the cheapest to the best, never had a problem. I like Luepold rings and bases but have never had a problem in 40+ years with Weaver either.

Does the Bushnell elite 3200 have shock guard?

Does the Bushnell elite 3200 have shock guard?
micdundee, taken from Bushnells website in regards to the Elite 3200. Being a 1-piece tube it does/should have advantages over others in its price range for shock or durability that use 2 piece tubes, according to Bushnell they recoil test the 3200 - simulated to 1000 rounds from a 375H&H. Not sure what shock gaurd refers to, but one could assume yes it is tested on its strength and ability to take recoil/blows. However if a heavy recoiler eye relief might be a ? with the Elite. What gun did you have in mind?

"The Elite® 3200 offers multi-coated optics for generous light transmission and crisp image quality. To prevent light distortion from moisture, our exclusive, patented Rainguard® lens coating reduces large drops of water into near-microscopic specks. Scattering far less light, their significantly smaller size results in dramatically increased light transmission and a remarkably clearer image in wet weather (including condensation from your own breath). Like the Elite 4200® the Elite 3200 riflescopes also feature ultrastrong, one-piece hammer-forged aluminum and titanium alloy tubes which are 30% stronger than standard aluminum scopes. They are also recoil-tested to 1000 rounds of a .375 H&H Magnum. With 1/4 M.O.A. fingertip, audible/resettable windage and elevation adjustments, the 3200 offers everything the most avid and discriminating hunter requires."
