RE: What type of knife do you use?
I have 10 or 12 good knives, but the two I use most are both Bucks. I always carry my old BuckLite folder in the woods with me, it really is lightweight and sharpens up fairly easily. My favorite skinner is a Buck fixed blade with the titanium coating on the blade. It is different in that only one side of the blade is sharpened. This allows the titanium to always be the cutting edge. It is "awesome" for skinning deer, and it really holds an edge. The biggest drawback is that it takes about an hour to get the edge back when it finally does get dull. It has the rubber handle which does make it a little easier to hang on to when your hands get bloody (mainly because of the checkering pattern molded in). I do have a little gut hook knife from Cabela's that I pull out sometimes, and it does help for splitting one open, but that is all I use it for. The T-shaped handle feels odd to me.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
For hunting I use the Buck Zipper for most of my deer and a Woodsman for everything else.
My everyday knife is a folding Gerber with a half serrated bladed. I've carried one type or another of pocket knife for 35 years.[&:] |
RE: What type of knife do you use?
I own many knives, however i have a couple i use for deer and turkey and other small game. My favorite deer knife is a blade i had made with a deer antler in Red River Gorge. For turkey i use my buck knife with a gut hook.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
My favorite is this one, great for splitting the pelvis bone. It's the Browning Swivel-lock. But actually, I probably have 8-10 that go with me anytime I'm in the field.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
I use a "whitetail" by [link]http://www.outdoorsmansedges.com[/link] . It holds an edge great. Does take some effort to sharpen if you let it get dull. The handle is custom fitted to your specs, wood and hand size.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
I use Case, Gerber, Old Timer, and Gator. Few more around here somewhere. But I hate Stainless Steel blades.
If I get one with a stainless blade I will open it and stick it in a flower pot for a few weeks to get that stainless crap off of there so I can sharpen it correctly. |
RE: What type of knife do you use?
I have a cold steel, but for cleaning game, I will take an empty 35mm film canister and put a few razor blades in them. The razor blades work great for cleaning deer sized game.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
i recently bought a Buck Alpha i havent cleaned a deer with it het but its a very nice heavy knife i think it`ll work out really nicely its a smaller fixed blade knife but the blades real thick and heavy and its one of them where the blade is the handle(if you under stand what im saying) it not like them ones where they have the blade thats sorta stuck in a piece of wood this one has some rubber pieces "rivited" to the blade and it feels real good to hold dosent feel like it`ll break easy but we`ll se how it does cleaning it has a ood shape so it should do excellent but before this one i was useing a old timer fixed blade i dont think it had a model but it was a good knife it was like a $20 walmart knife but it kept a good edge

RE: What type of knife do you use?
When Grandpa died, I found a Buck folder in his things, and I was allowed to keep it. I think it will do everything I will ever need it to do, and I kind of feel good carrying it!

RE: What type of knife do you use?
I have been carring a buck 110 folder for 10 years. Great knife , it's done every thing I've needed. But this spring I decided I needed a nice fixed blade. I ended up purchasing a wolverine drop piont. Sweet looking knife and feels wonderful in the hand.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
I am a collector of Case knives and use them for everything, good steel...but the folding type get really "dirty" in the joints when cleaning a deer so i use a cold steel master hunter, not toooo big but big enough to go through the ribs and even split the pelvis, a 4 inch blade i belive and ruberized grips, NOT stainless, takes and holds a great edge.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
I just got a couple Columbia river knives, i've yet to skin or gut a deer with them but im sure they will do the trick just nice, but they have stiff competition against my buck knives so we'll see.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
In my hunting pack are 2 knives. 1 A Wyoming knife witha little screwdriver and extra blade. I love this thing, It opens an animal's belly so fast you'd think it had a zipper on it. The other is an old K-bar. It's a bit big but the extra mass is great when splitting a brisket open. It must be one of the hardest pieces of metal I've ever seen made into a knife. It sharpens to an incredible edge but takes a while to get there.
For everyday use I carry a Kershaw whirlwind clipped in my right pocket. I feel naked without it |

RE: What type of knife do you use?

|
RE: What type of knife do you use?
A spanish made Nieto folder with drop point blade and also a spanish made Muela skinner with gut hook......
|
RE: What type of knife do you use?
Any decent knife will work fine for deer, if you want to do elk and bigger a heavier fixed blade is good. The one thing I will say is that the Wyoming Knife is GREAT. So pick whatever knife suits your fancy, but be sure to get a Wyo knife.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
I have used an ol Shrade fixed blade knife since i started hunting. It was given too me by my dad who used it since way before i was born. Two years ago he gave me another one for Christmas. It was a completely custom handmade knife. He knows a guy who makes custom knives from scratch, he only makes 3 a year and has been doing it for about 30 years. Each one is unique. It is a beautiful knife with laminated handle and polished steel blade. I havent used it for hunting yet, but plan on trying it sometime.
