Buck zipper, Buck Skinner and Buck 110.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
Dozier custom handmade. Simply the best knives made, IMO. www.dozierknives.com. Coming from years with Buck, etc (which are fine knives - I'm not knocking them at all), I'll never look back.

Kershaw Elk Skinner(with guthook) and also pack one made by a local knifemaker, Charlie Clifton.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
I've used a Coleman/Western Stainless Skinner for almost 25 years now! For a cheap knife it has served well! Holds a good edge and feels good in the hand, and is still as good as the day I bought it.
As far as pocket knives go, I love Case and Buck too, but for a hunting knife, I just can't seem to retire the old Coleman! |
RE: What type of knife do you use?
Kershaw Blade Trader is better than sliced bread. They sharpen real nice and the blades are inexpensive to replace.
I use the Alaskan for the field and have a multi blade set-up for the kitchen. |

Gerber on my belt -General Purpose Kershaw Blade Trader in my pack - Field dressing, trimming lanes, skinning, etc. Boning/Butchering - Victorniox 6" boning knives Caping - Puma caper - fleshing |
RE: What type of knife do you use?
I handled a Buck zipper with rubber handle at Cabelas. I really thought that it wouldn't be much less "slippery when wet". They need a handle made out a "maleable", softer rubber that can bee "squeezed". Sort of like a polymer gun sling. Just a thought.

RE: What type of knife do you use?
I'm with JagMagMan. I have a 20+ year old Coleman/Western fixed blade drop point knife that I never hunt without. It came with a 99 year warranty, and I don't think I'll ever need to call them on it. The knife holds an edge well, and is just as good as the day I bought it.
