What small flashlight do you carry.
After years of using the small mag light I tried the Browning 14mm light. The Browning cost about five bucks more but worth every penny. The beam is brighter and you dont have to shake it to keep it on like the small mag light. If you looking for a small flashlight give this one a try. Has anyone used the larger Brownings?

I carry a Stinger....Brightest little light I've ever owned.

RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
I use a browning lite that uses 2 "C" cells. Still keep my Mini Mag as a backup if I loose my browning.

RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
I use a steamlight w/ 7 led lights. It takes 4 AA batteries and they last a long time, but the light is pricey.

Usually I use my Russian KXR - Infare red motion sensing night vision googles/w rubberized nose grip. However I carry a maglite mini mag as back up

RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
I rarely carry a flashlight anymore as I've hunted the same property for so long I know it even in the dark. But if I do take one with me, I use the mini Maglite.
|
RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
I use a stylus LED with a green light. Supposed to not scare the deer. It's the size of an ink pen and is surprisingly bright.
|
RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
i use the 25$ head band lite that uses the l.e.d. bulbs. i think its a streamlight. it has a green lite function for not spooking game as well as 2 modes of white lite. i hate hand held ones because i carry enough gear in with me and when its on you head the lite goes where you need it.the l.e.d. lites last 20 times longer than regular ones. 3 months later on the same batteries its actually paying for itself because i only like to use the good batteries which are pricey.

RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
This is an area that I hadn't kept up with well.....for a number of years. I used one of two mini-mags that I own and never bothered looking around. And in truth they have worked fairly well.
Recently I acquired a Surefire and to say that there is a difference...would be the "king of all understatements". (But the life of the Lithium batteries is too short to carry only a Surefire.) So now the Surefire is a "bedside" light that doubles duty with a 3 "D" cell Maglight. I've read a little about the LED's and plan on looking into them. As well I believe that Surefire recently brought to market a small light with clear lens and both a red and blue filter. (To reduce impaired night vision...and for blood trailing in the dark....should that be necessary.) And I think I remember reading a review of that light that stated it is not quite as bright as their Tactical models....but has better battery life. More research is indicated! I've found as I grow older....even when I know my way to stand in the dark....I always use the light. Simply because "deer don't"! I don't want some over anxious fool shooting me! |
RE: What small flashlight do you carry.

RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
I tend to keep a cheap flashlight in my pack in case I need to use it to see specific stuff like gutting, I make sure it is the same type battery as my G.P.S so I don't have to worry about carrying different types of batteries. Otherwise, I tend to travel in the dark.
I'm suprised that no one here has mentioned "Chem-lights"... I always have a few of them stuffed in my pack. No batteries to worry about, and they are good for about twelve hours once you crack 'em. They come in all different colors. I have found that if you need to leave your deer in the woods for any reason, You can hang one on a tree branch, and then easily find it again in the dark. They are also good for twirling around in your hand while walking along on public land so that some gumby does'nt mistake you for a deer and take a pot shot at night. The "white" ones put out a great deal of light and can be used as a form of flashlight in a pinch. As I said, no batteries to check, and they're good for about twelve hours. One thing though, stay away from the cheap wannabe's at wallmart, they are hard to see when they are right in front of you, find an army navy store and get the "real deal" or go on-line and get 'em from the source. They are about two hundred times brighter. |
RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
mini mag (still) wut browning is the flash lite u use big guy
|
RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
I use the mini mag flashlight, but if the white light spooks deer then I'm gonna get a green Led of some brand, any suggestions?
|
RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
A pelican mity lite and a streamlite green led. I did find out that you can't blood trail with the green streamlite after dark when there's water on the leaves!! That's why i carry the pelican while deer hunting.

RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
I used to use the mag lites but seemed they always needed new batteries or bulbs.
Now I use the LED models. The bulbs last forever and the batteries seem to last almost forever also. A major plus is when the batteries do start to wear out they do so slowly so you can replace them long before you are left in the dark. Maglites are fine if you don't use your flashlite much but if you are hiking 3 or 4 hours a day back and forth to your hunting site across country in the dark the Led lights are the way to go. I also always carry two small flashlites and a headlamp at all times. Nothing worse than being 5 miles up the mountain at dark and having your flashlight fail you. Makes for a long night and potentially life threatening. |
RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
Mag-Lite[:-]
I want to try the LEDs though |
RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
I use a Petzl Myo 5 headlamp. Its a little pricey at 70 bucks, but its a great light with 5 LED's for flood light and also has a Xenon lamp for longe range. Backup is a AAA Mini Mag. I use a rechargable 1 million candlepower spotlight for tracking.

RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
a mini super saber

RE: What small flashlight do you carry.
Princeton Tech Impact II / Streamlight Polystinger
I will never carry another Maglite again! It's a single led light that throws a blueish beam with a magnified lens and still fits in the Minimag head band. Cost me under $20, but worth every penny! I use the Stinger for tracking if need be. Mike |
