You should pick one of these products..
  • Marmot Minimalist ($189) ...
  • Outdoor Research Helium II ($159) ...
  • Patagonia Torrentshell ($129) ...
  • The North Face Venture 2 ($99)

Have you considered a decent pair of waterproof pants and a poncho? With a poncho, you can wear layers of clothing on your upper body so you don't over heat and also keep your rifle or shotgun reasonably dry. Most game won't be moving during the rain so you'll likely be sitting it out someplace as well. Then when the rain stops, you can shed the poncho and hunt in your regular clothes along with your waterproof pants.

I came a cross a poncho that appears to be a piece of army surplus. Very heavy duty, and ones like it go $50 or less. (this one has a camo pattern). It's great for what elkman is suggesting.

Consider checking out any military surplus stores in your area. They may have some rain gear and milspec clothing is usually high quality. Also look for military surplus clothing made from wool. Decent wool clothing should handle a bit of rain without loosing its ability to keep you war.

again another member that joined added a post and never came back, you guys are all adding info to a thread that the OP doesn't care about , or they would have been back?

odds are OP was a spam person like so many others that join have 1 post and never come back

Darn. gotta remember to look at the dates of the OP. You're right. 2 months old topic got resurrected and looked like a current conversation.

This.

Guess I was being helpful to a ghost.

Ditto. I'd rather spend my time helping somebody who actually wants the help.

Thanks for the recommendation! I was looking for something cheap and I will consider these options first.

You should check out Cabelas bargain cave. Should be able to score some Gore-Tex at that price.

the post may be dated , but there will be dozens of people over every few months looking for related info that need similar info,
so your posted info and any useful links are not wasted.
think about it, if you need info you do a search, you don't say only give me threads posted in the last week! hell,
the info you need may be in a link that's 3-5 years old, so you read the related threads, and you'll find the info you need!
its not wasted time to post good info on older threads even if the originating post starter is long gone from the web site.
that thread may be a decade old, but its still potentially very helpful to people looking for related info

My only suggestions is to buy once and cry once. I know it's a silly saying but it is true. Buying cheap hunting gear is more costly in the long run because you will ultimately just be replacing it anyway and makes time in the woods miserable. You get similar weather to me in Niagara so good boots are important but do not have to be hunting specific. Jacket and pants are important and rain gear - until I bought hunting specific rain gear I use an old army surplus camo poncho and it worked well.

Look for sales or even used quality gear. It does not have to match (not a fashion show). Not sure even look in Canada as the exchange is amazing for Americans right now @ $1.31 Cdn for $1 USD and there is a BPS right in Niagara Falls.
