Default Rifle scope

I'm a new Hunter and I need help finding a scope. I'm planning on getting a Ruger American. I'm between the Vortex Crossfire 2 and the Leupold VX-1. Which one of these scopes would be the better choice? Any other recommendations? Thanks!

Either one...what is your max budget for a scope?

IMO I would go with the Leupold.

I checked both of those scopes out at Gander mountain prior to them closing and when I did a side by side comparison at 4 power the Leupold was clearer to me and was only like 25 dollars more

I've used a Leupold VX-II scope for years for deer hunting and am currently using Vortex binos for the same. You can't go wrong with either brand and both scopes you mentioned are around $150 on Amazon. If you can get to a store that sells them, take a look through both and see how they look for you (eye relief, clarity, etc.).

I have a Leupold VX-1 on a 30-06 bolt action used for open country deer hunting. I am very happy with it. Leupold has arguably the best warranty out there.

I would stick with the Leupold. I don't think you can beat them.
