If it hurts the tree it ain' t for me , get a climber . It will also solve your theft problem . RA' s idea sounded pretty good too .

API has a new stand out that has a lockon and a ladder connected. The ladder is telescopic. It looks pretty neat. You could carry it in like a climber. However you can only get up about 15 feet.

Cranford' s are the taper type screw that I have. Sometimes they pull out! I still use them, but much prefer the Grizzly' s. Also, the Grizzly' s are longer.

The ladder steps is another consideration I haven' t checked into. If your big fear is having steps and/or stand stolen, they migh tbe a consideration. If you are reasonably safe after installing about 5 or 6 skyhook removeables, go with them because you won' t have to attach ladder steps in the dark.

RE: tree steps

I use API skyhooks for the first 5 steps and then use Ameristeps the rest of the way. Hey Greenbunch, edders.com has extra lag bolts for the skyhooks but they are $1.50 each. I have tried my local hardware stores but have been unable to find lag bolts like the ones that come with the skyhook. Has anyone found them on the net or know where we can find some lag bolts for a reasonable price?

Before I got a climber I would use 3-4 strap-ons on the bottom then either screw ins or sky hooks depending what was left in my bag of tricks.

Listen to RedAllison, once you go ladder you will never go back to using steps. Lone Wolf makes a good one. 7.5 lbs gets you 16 feet up.
