Default SCOPE QUESTION

HAS ANYBODY TRIED THE NEW WEAVER GRAND SLAMS LINE YET? I WAS ABOUT TO GET A VXIII FOR MY 7MM BUT HAVE HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE WEAVERS AND ALSO THE NIKONS. THE CABELAS ALASKAN GUIDES ALSO LOOK FAIR. I DONT PLAN TO PUT A SWAROVSKI ON THIS RIFLE AS I PLAN TO USE IT AS A SPARE IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS AND I DONT FEEL LIKE SPENDING OVER 1K ON A BACKUP SCOPE. ANYBODY HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE WITH THESE SCOPES AND ANY INSIGHT AS TO HOW THEY HOLD UP? I AM FAMILIAR WITH THE LEUPOLDS BUT IVE NEVER USED THE OTHERS.

THANKS

Your first instinct was right stick with the Leupold,Weaver is junk and you are still better off with Leupold than Cabelas brand.

I would have to disagree with dvdegeorge. I have looked thru several of the Weaver Grand Slams and I am very impressed with them. I have all Vari-X III' s on my guns and I have tested the Grand Slam up again the Leupold. I think the Weaver' s are brighter and clearer than the Leupolds. I have several customers that are very pleased with their purchase of the Grand Slam. Great Scope for the money, well worth it!

Maybe you are promoting what you are selling?Internals are not as good as leupold, had a weaver and it didn' t handle recoil well,BROKE this was my one experience with weaver and they won' t get another look from me.

If I was promoting what I sell, I would be promoting the Leupold, since it is more money. Don' t get me wrong, I like Leupold' s, but just think for the money the Weaver is a better scope. I just would have a hard time buying a scope for $439.00, when I can get one just as good for $249.00. I think that Leupold is in a rut. Everyone is improving their optics, coatings, etc., but Leupold has not done anything with the Vari-X III' s is almost 10 years. They are starting to lose a lot of market share. Just my 2 cents.

outdoorwizard point taken but I' ll stand by my statement that the internals of a leupold are superior to Weaver. You can have Swarovski glass but if it can' t handle recoil and hold a zero you might as well just buy binoclulars to look through

HOW IT HANDLES RECOIL IS A CONCERN OF MINE, 7 MM MAG. I REALLY LIKED THE SPRINGFILED SCOPES WITH THE RANGEFINDER AND ILL RET' S IN THEM BUT IVE HEARD THEY ARE HORRIBLE ON MAGNUMS, ONE GUY TOLD ME HIS RETICLE ACTUALLY CAME LOOSE. ILL PROBABLY JUST GET THE VXIII AND QUIT WORRYING ABOUT IT.

I have a Nikon Monarch on a .338 RUM and it handles the recoil just fine, holds zero fine and is very clear and bright. I have compared it to the Leupold' s and couldn' t see twice the difference for twice the price. I have never owned a Weaver or Leupold so all I can say is that the Nikon is great.
