What's in your hunting pack??
Okay, now I've been hunting for a few years (since I was 12) and my Dad helped me set up my first pack. After reaching adulthood I was able to customize the pack the way I wanted it a little more by adding some other stuff that I would need since I wouldn't always be hunting with my dad. I have two packs that I use. One is a fanny pack I take for short trips where I'm not going to be out for more than a few hours and the other one is a back pack that I take with me for the long trips. My question is this: What do you carry in your packs? Feel free to add a list of full contents as I'm always looking for options.
Also, what do you use for fire starter? I've recently been researching homemade fire starters and am looking for something that is about 99.9% waterproof and haven't found much yet. Let me know!! |
one thing that i have found to start fires with that works really good is Ignito Packs. they can be found at walmart and other places. They are water proof to. they are little plastic packs of some chemical that will burn at like 1000 degrees for around 10-15 minutes. these work great because all you need is a lighter to get it started and you dont have to spend anytime trying to get your fire started. also you can start with bigger pieces of wood so you can get a nice fire going great.

Never heard of those, I'll have to go to the local Wally-World and see if I can find some of them. It'd be worth the money if they're actually waterproof and work all that well!!

Cheap effective firestarter
I got this tip from an old Field and stream magazine. Save a couple of months worth of lint from the clothes dryer filter. It weighs nothing and cost nothing. I like that. Lately, I have taken to tightly packing the lint into a 35 mm film canister and squirting in a few drops of lighter fluid. Foolproof. Wishing a safe and successful hunting season to all!
