I have searched the internet and shops for a quality LED headlamp checking the brands such as Princeton Tec, Petzl, and Optronics; and finally found one that fits my needs. Which are it must use AA batteries that my GPS and other gear uses, has a built in red light so I don' t have to screw around with red filters, has only LED bulbs for long battery life and never burn out, light weight, and is bright enough when the need arises.
After an exhaustive search I landed on " Photon Fusion" . The headlamp is water resistant, weights 3.6 oz. w/o batteries, uses gold plated contacts, has a red LED that is varible in output that can be swiched on independently, economy / bright / brillant / hyper bright settings for the 6 white LED bulbs that puts out an impressive amout of light, head removes from the headband, has a belt clip and a tilting head. The lamp has constant light output even when the batteries run down, thru the built in electronics, most lights out there will dim as the batteries weaken. The Fusion also has some other features as well-" Smash protection" on the ON switch, three strope settings including a SOS, .
Down side I wish it was waterproof instead of water resistant but, should be fine in the rain, just don' t duck it under water.
