I got the Nikon 8X42 ATB this year, used them on a week long hunt and they were phenominal, especially for the price. Going to 10X may be ok, but anything above 10X I find useless in the field unless you're resting the binos on something.

If you want top of the line get the Zeiss or Swarovski . I have had good luck with the Leupold Wind River series 10x42. They run around $350.
