If you want one pair of boots, then I wouldhave to saythe 1000. I use three pair of polypropylene socks anda heavy all wool sock, whichkeeps me pretty warm on cold days.Although, I would prefer to have a pair of 400 (or even unisulated) for early season, and a 2000 for the real cold days. stand.

Well I ended up buying 1000gr Danners, took them hunting deer for a week, the weather was sitting around 0 to -5C and we had about 12 inches of snow fall and at times I was sitting for 3 to 4 hours without moving. At the end of the four hours my feet we starting to feel a little chill, nothing I could not handle, as soon as I walked for a few minutes they were warm again.

Feet were never damp and always comfy, a huge step up from the insulated rubber boots I use to wear, one of the better hunting purchases I have made.
