I have a 2005 Polaris Ranger, 499 cc, 4x4. I hadhad a great expereince with this machine until about 8 weeks ago. It has about 600 hours of use now. I am dissapointed.First trouble was transmission. It started to get rather difficult to shift. Turned out that some of the "High" gear's gogs had sheared and eventually ruined the transmission. Required a full replacement. First time out after that and 3 miles of putt-putting following a guy bush-hogging woods roads, the transmission failed again.Would not shift at all. This time it was a broken shifter ring ... the brand new one. About 30% of thewheel snapped. Shop made good with a complete new transmission. All was well next two trips to the woods, then Saturday as I was headed in to do some scouting and stand work it flat died ... about 2 miles from the camp. Would not hit a lick. So back to the shop. So - I will not recommend a Ranger based upon the performance of this one. And I will add that I have never rawhided nor abused this machine and have had all service performed on schedule. Maybe it is a lemon ... who knows? Six of the guys I hunt with have Rhinos and have had excellent expereinces with these macines. I am thinking about a Honda "Big Red", but what I am hearing these will be tough to find and in the $13k MSRP.

I know they make a few uTV with a diesel engine option....I believe the diesels tend to be bigger engines too, I'm surprised I think alot of UTV's are only like 675cc, but I think I've seen the diesels being 3 cylinders at like 900+ ccs, and with it being a diesel I'm sure you can haul alot more....

Something to consider.
