Look for a pair of boots that have a good, stiff sole, because walking on rocks all day will kill your feet if your soles are too soft. I always buy boots with Vibram soles. And I prefer boots with good, stiff leather. They take longer to break in, but they last longer and don't get all scuffed up from rocks. I've found that boots without some kind of leather in the uppers break down way too fast and don't provide sufficient ankle support.

Take a look at Rocky Lynx, Danner Pronghorn, and my personal favorite, Cabelas Whitetail Extream 600 gr. Those puppies feel as good on my feet as my Mucks, but have the toughness quality you are looking for.

I just bought these while they were on sale $69.00 been wearing them to break them in but didnt need to they are very comfy and I always have a hard time with shoes,hunting boots and workout shoe nike puma nothing ever fits but these boot do cant wait to really test them in wyoming and montana this year

These are a little more than you want to spend but I love these boots. they are light, waterproof and tough as nails.

I bought a pair of Cabela's boots for $89 on sale, love them!
1200 grams, Thinsulate and waterproof.
Look them up online, cheap money, I'm buying a second pair.

I have a pair of cabelas whitetail boots 600gr that fir well an have served me well, but I also like Rocky and I have a Rocky outlet store not far away, bear claws have worked for me.

+1 for me. I haven't wore mine hunting yet, but I have wore them around the house.
