i do not have a tree stand and i was wondering how to make a stand that is on 3 trees that make a triangle, do u know what i mean. i have seen some that people make and they stay there all year long? i just wondered how to make a platform at the top and how to secure it to the trees. i need some help cus the season starts dec 7 and i want the deer to get use to it and think that is is always there. i would like it to be about 15 ft high. thanks. First of all if its not your property make sure you have permission to build a permanent stand.

Well to build a stand in the type of tree you mentioned is quite easy.

1st of all put the steps up to the desired height. You can either use foot wide boards with nails or the screw in steps you get from a store, but either way you want to stagger the steps side to side on the way up the tree. ( If you use the boards & nails make sure you scrape the bark off the tree in that spot where the board will go so your nail has more tree to secure into.)

Next to build the suports for the platform you'll be standing on take 3 sturdy boards like 2x4's long enough to extend from tree to tree. Take the 1st board & nail (with spikes) to the outside of 1 of the 3 trees at the desired height then nail the other end of that board to the outside of the 2nd tree making sure the board stays level. Then continue with the other 2 boards working your way around the 3 trees till you have created a triangle around the 3 trees. (To make the support boards doubley secure you can put secondary support boards under these support boards to give you more security if you like, but if you use strong boards & spikes its probably not necessary.)

Then its time to do the floor, you'll need floor boards long enough to stretch across your support boards. Start on the inside of the trees laying your floor boards down on your support boards, then nailing the floor boards down into your support boards. Continue securing the floor baords into the support boards until the floor is complete, giving you your standing platform in between the 3 trees.

Finally if you like you can repeat the process you did for making the support triangle to make yourself shooting rails using smaller boards.

Hope this helps, good luck!!

If your in a northern climate like me where snow is a good possibility then you will want to leave space(2 inches) in between the floor boards so that the snow can be pushed off of the stand easily(falling through the openings in between the boards) Nothing worse than standing on snow all day that eventually turns to ice. As for a ladder you can even use 2X4's that go from one tree to the other and work your way up to the platform. I've found that it is usually a little more secure than putting a board on one tree and easier to climb.

Just put a chair in the stand if there's enough room. If not you can build out a seat from one of the trees or in between them.
