any knife will do...as long as you know how to put an edge on it, i dont know why some peopleactlike theirafraid to sharpen their knifes.....i use a 30 year old 4 inch normark fillet knife... worksfine for skinning...and you can use any knife for gutting...usually i just use my 4inch fillet for the whole deer...its all you need..(along with some kind of bone saw) it only takes about a minute to unzip game with it. usually ill touch it with my steel a few time throu the whole process to keep it RAZOR sharp.

I thought about spending some money on a fancy knife....but what for a 100$ knife doesn't do any more tricks for you than a 20$ knife...believe me.

i'm a budget minded hunter, so i stick with Buck Knives. field tested over decades and still going strong! for a pocket knife, i carry a Kershaw.

Buck is by far my favorite for hunting. Here is the one I carry. It has knife, saw and gut hook all in one. This knife has lasted me a long time and cleaned many deer!!!!!

If you are going to use your knife for field dressing, check out the browning Field Dressing series. A friend of mine let me borrow his one day. It was the sweetest thing I have ever used. It has two blades. The first blade is a regular blade with a gut hook, the other a saw. It made field dressing a snap. It is a little expesive at 80.00 but well worth the money IMO.

I'm a big fan of the Columbia River Knife & Tool knives. I've got several of their M16 folders for carry. For skinning, I just bought my son and I a pair of CRKT Bridger Skinners. Only used it on one deer so far, but, it worked great. Seemed like the blade was a really good shape for the work, good ergonomics, and it held its edge throughout the process.

Here's one:

FWIW I ordered a knife from Rapidriver a week ago after a suggestion from this thread. I have tried emailing and leaving a voice mail to try and get a delivery date. At this point I have not heard back from them, makes me wonder what their customer service would be like if I actually recieved it and had a problem.
