Default ThermaCell ?????

I know the Thermacell works great.
They recommend keeping the unit in a horizontal position when using.
My question is how do you set the ThermaCell up when you are up in a treestand?
Is it effective when usedin the vertical position?

Thanks

I lay mine on the base of my stand. If I am hunting a ladder stand I keep it between my feet. You could get a short bungee cord and strap it to the base of your stand under you and that would prevent it from moving. I don't think it would work near as well in a verticle position.

Get the carring case for it and strap it to your pack and it will hang vertical/face up just like they recommend.

Hey Joe (sideways)...it'll work either way. It prolly works better laying down, but will work either way.
BTW...when we were out hunting the other day...once I got into my stand it hit me that I should have offered to let you try my thermacell since we had just talked about it.
Hopefully with this little cold snap we just had we won't need them much longer.

I also use the case you can buy for it. I hunt down here in the Florida Swamp and strap it to my arm and it works. So yes it works both ways.

Thanks for all of the reply's.
I was goinghunting thispast Saturdayafternoon and no one locallyhad the holster.
Since it will workin the vertical position I took the unit apart and drilled 2 holes in the top of the back section then ran a small piece of rope thru the holes. Now I can hang it from a hook or small branch.

Navy, you are right this cold snap will mean the end of those pesky buzzing blood suckers. [:'(]

Can deer smell the therma cell? Or is there any bug spray that deer cannot smell?

Deer either can't smell the Thermacell, or don't associate it with a threat. I've shot a few deer now that have walked nearly underneath my stand while using the thermacell. Prior to the thermacell, I was using a spray called No Stinkin' Bugs. They have a couple formulas...one is unscented, and the other has a "fall" cover scent with it. The stuff came in a pretty small can, and was pretty expensive, but worked fairly well as a repellent and had very little odor.
