Garmin eTrex Legend GPS arrived!
{In regards to my other post about the various types and opinions of GPS units}
When I got home from work today, the UPS guy left a small box, and in it was my new Garmin eTrex Legend GPS. I can't believe it was shipped so fast!!
Anyway... This thing is incredible! I immediately popped in two new AA batteries, took it outside, and powered it on. It did take a while to "initialize" I guess, and get itself setup for the first time, and find the satellites and their coordinants, etc... But it came up and instantly mapped the latitude/longitude of my backyard and the elevation! I walked around my back yard with the compass, and it tracked my movement and even made a tiny layout of my route and how fast I walked! Whoa...
I went back in the house, read all though the manual over dinner (which annoyed my wife slightly), but it was pretty straight forward and easy to figure out.
Now I have to go onto that terraserver or topozone website and get the latitude/longitude of my favorite hunting spots and manually enter them into the GPS.
I know.... I know.... I'm like a kid with a new toy.... [8D]
This is what the unit looks like (hopefully the photo came out okay, as it's after dinner time and starting to get dark). It is in satellite mode and is displaying the satellites and their location and my latitude/longitude of my back yard.

Thanks...
I don't have to worry about my wife or my girls messing with the GPS. They all looked at it, and when I tried explaining how it works and what it can do, and they all just stared at it like it was something from Star Trek!
It is a cool GPS unit and will be very very handy in my pack this season.

Butch,
You may want to look into mapcard.com. It's a great site that can provide you with high quality printable topo maps and aerial mpas and you can mark your gps waypoints on them. It's worth the small fee in my opinion.

It was $139 direct off the internet at a place called: http://www.digitallyunique.com
and also included FREE shipping (on any order over $100 bucks). [8D]
Do a search on the internet like amazon.com or google.com and punch in "Garmin eTrex Legend", and you'll see countless sites on places to buy it on the internet. Some now are cheaper than the $139 that I got mine at.
The standard eTrex (yellow case) is like $89 or $99 bucks or something. It's pretty cool and is just like the eTrex Legend - only the Legend model has the mapping feature.
Edit: Here ya go! Check this out....

Looks like I will getting one of those little eTrexs. I just saw that they lowered the price here in town. My first one (Emap) is a little too big and this one will be perfect.
