Default GPS Help Needed

I'm not worried about getting lost, but I am thinking about getting a GPS to explore some new land that I now have hunting rights on. I would only use it in case I found something I liked I could reference the long and lat to a topo map and know exactly where on the property I was. And to mark land lines so I don't trespass. The Garmin etrex is only $100, would it do what I need it for. Thanks for any info.

I am not really familiar with the Etrex but considering the price I would have a hard time believe it has any type of base map or software compatibility to upload maps. I bought a mapping GPS unit two years ago and cannot believe how easy and convenient it is to use. Even if I just had to use the basemap without the uploadable finer details I think it would still prove invaluable.

Price was about twic the Etrex but I think it was worth it.

OK, I've narrowed it down to two at Walmart: Magellan Explorist 200 $150 and the Garmin Etrex Legand $170. Which one fellas. Thanks.

both would be good you have to read the boxs and find out what features they have, for the most part they might have basically the same but one might have more way points or routes battery life etc. Pick that way and enjoy and remember don't just carry a gps have a decent compass with you.

The garmin etrex legend is what i got my dad for his birthday, shortly after he bought land and was able to figure out the property layout with it.

Thanks T.D.W., that's is really one of my main purposes for getting one. It will save a lot of retracing and head scratching.
