Default New Mexico Oryx

Was lucky enough to draw a tag for the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico and made good on a great Oryx. Measured 37.75" and 38.75" with 7.75" bases. Extremely tough critters with shot placement being extremely important. Hit this one a little low with a range given of 250 when he was 350 then made a second shot at 350 after tracking for a mile and pulled slightly right and hit kidneys, (would have been perfect if it was a whitetail!). Kept after him but my sponsor was ready to pack it in and go after some others that we had seen. Ended up getting extremely lucky and found him in a dirt road side ditch while driving over to the other herd. Put a few finishing shots in and got celebrating. Not 100% sure of weight but had to be close to the 500 lb mark. These are free range animals and I couldn't be happier with the one I was blessed to take. Can't wait to get the mount and meat back to Oklahoma.

Thank yall. I'm still in awe of the experience.

Forgot to mention but while cleaning him he had been shot 2 other times and healed over.

Tried some of the meat the other day (steaks) I must say they were pretty dang good. Extremely lean so seared in a cast iron with butter after seasoned and cooked for 2 min per side. The texture is a little bit tougher than a deer steak but absolutely zero game flavor. Flavor profile was probably closer to beef if I had to guess.
