So I've loaded up my .243 with 95 grain winchester ballistic silvertips (factory ammo) for hunting and they are moving about 3100 ft per second at the muzzle. Undoubtably, they work just fine for deer especially the further out I go, and likely better due to the lower velocity at longer distances. However, I was interested in information as to lethality against wild boar. Shots would be restricted to broadsides/ slight quatering away behind the shoulder or neck shots. Will this rather frangible bullet penetrate a good size hog WITHIN 100 yards?I have little doubt that at 100 yards and further they will penetrate with a good shot and most shots will be right at 100, but chances are they may come closer. In such case should I stick to neck shots?

I would have to say that will depend on the size of the hogs you have. If 300lbs max sure.

If there is any chance of pigs of over 300+lbs.......and a 243 is to be used.......Swift 90gr Scirocco's would be a better choice. This bullet offers equally flat shooting & has a tapered jacket to better control expansion & so more likely to punch through.

A Nosler partition or Swift A-frame would be even better for deepest penetration.

On any game a pass through is always highly desirable for best blood trails.

These would be my choices if using the 243 for pigs.
