I live in Arkansas, and every hog I have seen killed was taken with a .270, 30-30 or .30-06 (usually incidental to a deer hunt). No problems with those calibers observed.

I highly recommend which ever caliber you have in a semi-auto. Experience has taught me that quantity of lead over quality of lead leads to more kills hog hunting. A black rifle in .223 or .308 is my personnel pref.
Not for those of us that enjoy hunting them like some do with deer. I would much rather take my time and make one well placed shot than just spray and pray with some semi-auto.

Same here.

However, onefarm thati hunt on has so much hog damage that the landowner wants hogs shotfast; so a repeating rifle is needed. My friend and i are shooting them by the truckload once a week.

Most of my hogs have been killed with a muzzleloader.Atnormal hog shooting distancesmy .50 muzzleloaders doas good a job on hogs and as a .308 or a .300 Win Mag-maybe just a little better.

I'm lost on this one, I've never shot a hog, I've always used a bow.

My shot guns are for birds, my pistols are for intruders, my bows are for hunting. I don't even own a rifle (not anymore)

Hmmm,

After spending many an hour pondering just such a question, I wrote a disertation length post on the subject. Boar Hunting Calibers: Part I

The abridged version comes out this: Use what will bring you the most personal satisfaction. That 350 Remington is a "classic modern" round, that no one else is likely to have used in recent memory. The 270 is practical and works, the 22s require more precise shot placement, though that can be very satisfying in its own right.

Best regards,

I hope that a 270 works because that's what I'm taking in Sept. when I go on my first ever hog hunt.
