Got This Boar Last Evening

Weight: 120 pounds field dressed
Gun: Savage model 93 left hand
Caliber: .22 Magnum
Scope: Redfield Widefield 4X
Ammo: CCI 40 grain FMJ
Two boar hogs came into the pond i was watching from a tree stand.Shot this one as he started to drink. At the shot he reared back on his haunches,keeled over and kicked for about 45 seconds before expiring. The bullet ranged downward shredding the lungs. The stick marks the bullet entry hole. The bullet was not found.

Would not even think of tryinga shot like that on a really big hog.

I use the 22 mag on hogs quite often. Right between the eye and ear. They drop like a rock. 17 hmr is actually a bit to fast. It explodes in the first inch because it is moving so darn quick. Not a good round if you have to penetrate 2+ inches but blows the hell out of squirrels and bunnies.

cool hog, to me it looks like you hit the spine ?
My friend shot a 150lbr with a .22 mag and he made a terrible shot, hit it behind the lungs, actually a liver shot, complete pass through and it dropped right there. I also put him on one that was 250 + he hit in the head somewhere and that piggie took off like nothing ever happened, found a few specks of blood. We ended up taking that same pig a week later along with his buddie, his carcass went 220 and his buddies carcass went 280.
