Default East Texas hog

I finally broke in my new gun this weekend. We seen this hog saturday night but he would never come out of the brush. On sunday afternoon we spotted him again and he was staying back in the brush. Though this time he made the mistake of turning his head a little to the left. I could see his head from behind the tree. When I shot him his legs just buckled and he never knew what hit him.

I shot him in Buffalo. We are overrun with them up there. I really didn't want to shoot one but I wanted to see how the new gun would shoot. Last weekend we had 5 of them in a trap and after cleaning 3 of them we gave the other two away. Though my buddies son missed the best ones this weekend. There were a bunch of piglets running around and with the high wind they were hard to hit. They are great thrown on a pit whole.

Nice hog man. I'm jealous. That sounds like so much fun.

I shot this one with a new Weatherby Vanguard 30/06. I still have a couple other guns we haven't used yet to kill anything with so maybe I'll have to go use them next. We help the local police dept sight in their rifles. They just got a new Remington .308 sniper rifle it might be interesting to see how it works. I know it shots great but is too heavy to carry very far. I also have a old matchlock gun where you light a fuse to fire it. It would be interesting to use it one day. We had it test fired and it is safe to shoot.
