Default Buffalo Broadhead??

I have a Buffalo hunt booked and it is bow only. So should I use the Montec G5 fixed blade heads? OR the Rage 2 blade expandable? - not sure if I should have posted this in 'bowhunting' or not.

I would stick with a fixed head. I prefer something heavy. I like the Muzzy Phantom 220 grain. My total arrow weight is 543 grains.

I took a est. 900# + Cow at 41 yards.
60# Darton, 2216 Easton Shaft & a 125gr 3 Blade Rocky Mountain Ironhead-complete pass through.
My buddy did the same on a est 1200# + Bull at 43 yards-70# Compound & Carbon Arrow with 3 blade head.

Good Luck-fixed Blade.

Yep for once Bob and I are in total agreement

Buffalo have a lot thicker bones than a whitetail so you need a tough head incase you hit bone going in or coming out

I prefer heads with a blade thickness no smaller than .040 and razor sharp for all game that I hunt

Neither.

I know some guys love the montec G5.....i was considering them, read tons of reviews on cabelas site....was about to place an order then I read all the reviews, was shocked at how many guys hated them....

and rage 2 blade....2" wide just sounds like way too broad for penetration.

Personally I'd want a 2 blade fixed....something to get max penetration....a buffalo is wide....

Also if you hit bone....I think that head's going to stop on a buff, not bust through it, though a chisel point muzzy.....is an option, I'd go 2 blade cut on contact though.

I would stay away from the mechanical heads on a buffalo.

What bow # are you shooting? Most any fixed blade or two blade cut on contact should work fine.

Shooting a PSE Firestorm @ 55#'s. Shoots about 255 fps with 100 grain heads and Carbon Express Maxima arrows.

Stay away from the mech's, especially a wide cutting diameter like the Rage. With your # I would go with a cut on contact model of some sort, Magnus Stinger, Steel Force, etc.

That's why I like the Muzzy Phantom..
It's 0.40 thick. You can take off the bleeder blade and have a two blade cut on contact head, with plenty of up front weight to increase your FOC. As far as I'm concerned there is nothing out there better...
