.243 win for Hogs

I'm looking at getting another rifle something low recoil, but will still drop a hog dead in its tracks. I was thinking a .243, but not sure if it will do the job. 7mm-08 was also recommended to me.

.243 will definitely do it, but I would go with the .260.

Never seen a pig take a 243 shot to the head and not drop. Maybe there are some real monsters out there but I havn't found them yet.

RE: .243 win for Hogs

If you’re after light recoil and great stoping power the 260rem is the go (IMO) but a 243win with an 80-100gr pill will pull them up pretty quick. If your buying factory rounds get a 243win but if you reload then the 260rem is the ant’s pants.

I used a .270 on my hog it weighed over 600lbs. 615 I think. It didnt stop it in its tracks but it did WAY!! better then I thought. it barely missed the armor plate and went straight threw. It blead really good but I still had to shoot it 9 more times because it tried to charge us twice.4 with 270 ,5 with 357I also shot a 100 pounder which might be closer to what you might wanna shoot. shot it dead in the chest blew it all to ****. and peolpe told me the chest couldnt be broke bull****.

What kind of bullet do you guys/gals reccommend for a 243?A Winchester 100 gr. power-point or would something like a Nosler Partition be better?

Power Points work great on deer, but, I think I'd use something a little more heavily constructed if I was after pigs, especially if the pigs are over 150 lbs...

Have hunting hogs in FL several years. 243 works like a charm. My son has taken 2 hogs each over 175lbs w this rifle. Nosler partition, and Nosler ballistic tip 95 gr. No problem getting through armor either. Of course, if you had a nice250 plus trophy, a 30-06will give extra piece of mind.Great gun.
