Default .357 ok for hogs

I'm going out to buy a .357 tomorrow and I was wondering if it was ok for hogs?(As in if it was big enough?)

Get a Ruger GP-100 that will handle Corbon 200 grain hard cast and you will be in great shape. If the pigs are relatively large, you will need a larger bullet that is cast to do the job. I saw a S&W blow up on the range with a few boxes of 200 grainers. Both the gun and the owner were not a pretty sight! Ruger will do the job. I have put at least 5 boxes of 200 Corbon and federal 180 hard cast without a problem.

You can get a larger gun like a .44 mag for more security, but the recoil is much more fierce and much more difficult for shot placement.

I own a marlin .357 carbine and it handles the 180 Federals just fine. However, DO NOT put the Corbons in this gun! Hornady has some great loads for .357 as well. You can handload their 180 grain XTP and this is a great load for hogs out of a carbine. I would use the Corbon in a revolver though, A Ruger that is!

God Bless,

Porter

I agree with PR, Federal 180 grainhard cast loads haveworked well for me twice on hogs.

This is the first I have heard of the Corbon 200's. Off to the gun shop!

Sorry to hear about the spontaneous disassembly and injury. Would you perchance know which model it was, and was it a 7 shot?
