As i Replied in the Guns section about the new Hornady Rounds
In 2 weeks we have set up a hog hunt in Louisiana. There have been some 200+lbrs spotted and they say there is a hog that will easliy top 400lb that they have seen time to time. This is on a cattle property that is about half marsh land. they bait for deer year round and have seen the "big ones" move in at night to hit the feeders. They say they dont want to hog hunt so they are letting me and a friend go do the deed for them.... FREE =) testing out the 30-30 there along with a good stalk hunt for my bow.
i will be a able to tell you in the next few weeks. I bought a box and sighted my trusty old marlin 30-30 in at 150 yards. this should put me about -1.5" at 200yards and -18" at 300yards. I say Again SHOULD put me there. If it holds out to 200 i will be impressed. I like my 30-30 and this just made a good cheap and powerfull rifle that much better.

I have been curious about that round. It kinda scares me to put pointed bullets head to butt in a mag tube. I know it has the polymer tip, but still weirds me out. I have one in my truck right now. A friend of mine wanted to try them on hogs last week. He never got a shot, so we dont know. Im curious how they work.
Back in the 80s, I use to load a searra in my 30-30. The only problem was, you couldnt have but two bullets in your gun. One in the chamber and one in the mag. It worked great on deer. I dont use my 30-30 much anymore. I have grown fond of my 300 wby and 30-06. I use my 30-30 as a loaner. It still gets use, but by other people. Its still a great gun. Nothing wrong with a good old 30-30
