Hypothetical: How far north can hogs live?

In the Northeast forum, there was an article about confirmed wild hogs in central NY. What kind of winter conditions can these creatures survive. I'm in VT and while I think it might be fun to hunt hogs, I don't think our deer herd can take the competition. Need I worry?:D

Well put it this way for them living in the north. We have a problem with hogs in Manitoba and have an open season during the year without requiring a hunting license. They are pretty hardy animals that can stand very cold weather...

Manitoba? I guess they can take the cold.

It's probably only a matter of time before they migrate to New England.

Not if we can help it. They won’t make it past the border...

It's not Canadian Bacon that worries me. It's southern piggies expanding north.

WOW Manitoba!
For a while I thought our nordic herdswere something to mention but I have never heard ofeuroasian pigs going further than 60 degrees north but you got that beaten for sure.

These hogs are not native to the land but boars that have escaped from farms and have been creating problems for wildlife. I was just replying to how hardy these animals are under extreme cold conditions...

Central Russia Hunting

You answered that one yourself. Central of Russia is the 60. I found no sources of pigs in the northernmost half of Russia.

Our pigs are also runaways but they are pure wild boar and are mostly loved, not always by the farmers though, but on a lecture by a wildlife mangement official they give three times more than they cost. Problem is its not the guy that takes the costs that get the pay. What problem for wild life? And what do they eat when the ground is frozen? Maybe I answered that myself?

This link will give an idea of what it's all about.
