RE: Hog Scents
Chuck.
Get a old wheat bag soak it in diesel then tie it with wire around a tree. Give it a few days and go back, the pigs will have a track worn around the tree where they have been rubbing up against the bag. Resoak the bag as needed find a hiding spot about 20 yards away and start whackin them hogs;) |
RE: Hog Scents
So basiscly a bag with diesel fuel Burlap of course .Why are tthe hog sdrawn to that .How many times have you tried this and were successful?
Thanks Chuck |
RE: Hog Scents
Chuck.
I have used this method a lot the reason it works is the diesel will act as a bug repelent so they dont get as many mossie and tick bites. Plus the smell is like chanel#5 to them;) |
RE: Hog Scents
Chuck imho the add you have posted there in your opening this topic is great stuff in my opinion!I have used both of those particular scents with great success!Using a dripper or adding the scent to a wallow will greatly increase the activity in the area you intend to hunt!Obviousily no scent is a miracle worker!Your not going to pull a rabbit out of a hat here using any scent, your animals need to be in your area to begin with! The idea here is to keep those animals frequenting your hunting area giving you a opportunity to hunt or trap them!I'm partial to the sow-n-heat myself but both scents work great as an attractant as well as a good cover scent too!Good luck Bob.....

RE: Hog Scents
I use all of my scents year round on hogs and have many pictures sent to me of the successful pigs taken on our products. Although the Sow in Heat spray and gel that we offer usually only work on bringing in the Boar hogs, I have seen smaller pigs relax with it in the area. Our Sour Mash attractant works year round on all pigs and other wildlife as well. As far as the rubbing poles. I use a creosote rope wrapped around the smaller trees. They love it and it can be refreshed with a little used motor oil.

RE: Hog Scents
BIg Boar,
I'd like to be honest with ya. I bet you guys are not hunting in an over crowded WMA. I'm not trying to be smart or anything but real. Do you think your product would honestly work in a WMA.? When I'm set up I hear hogs most of the time. When daylight comes they are well in the thick snake filled cypress domes. I'm wondering if this product or the kerosene tree rags can attract them out of their hiding to get a shot? Again , I'm not trying to belittle ya just looking for answers. Chuck7 |
RE: Hog Scents
I hunt overcrowded WMA's myself. I don't think the rubbing materials will attract them to your spot. I use those over well established feeders as an additional thing to keep them around. On a wma, they have plenty of trees to rub on and don't particularly need yours for the few days your in, but that creosote keeps them around the feeders. Some guys use railroad ties and stick them in the ground next to the feeder.(same concept). But back to the attractants. If you know for a fact that you have a few dominant boars in the area, the sow in heat works well. I drag rag the Kellers Gel I sell and then spray the Feral Fire on a tampon, but like I said, thats if you know you have a dominant boar in the area. On a WMA just to bring in lots of hogs, I use the TUFF TUSK because it's so pungent. I had a guy on a ranch spray it only on one small pile of corn out of a whole road full of corn and not only the hogs, but the deer and exotics went to that spot. I know the frustration of hunting WMA's. I hunt the one's I know have lots ofgame though. I just shot a spike Friday morning in TOSOHATCHEE. There were five trucks parked in the area I hunt and I didn't think I was gonna see much and at 7:15 I was dragging a spike out. It can be done. How about I send you a sample bottle and you try it out. If you don't see anything, no harm done. If you do, send me a picture.

WOW !! I was looking at Tosohatchee this year but someone talked me into Citrus. Then....I got invited to hunt on a private farm in the Ozarks for th esame date so I gave my citrus permit away. I would love to try out your scent. Just put some on a tampon and hang it up ??? Ok I'll send you a PM with my address on it. I hunt the Green Swamp WMA. The bow season is over now. When I get back from MO I'll try your scent out. I know where a big mean boar lives. Thanks for the scent and kind reply. You must have confidence in your scent. |

Hog hunters
I would like to add. For this man to send me a free sample of his product really shows me that he has great confidence in his product. It sure says alot about his character. If I score or not I would buy this man's product because of his confidence in it. Last year at this WMA a man showed the same enthusiasm toward Primos 'The Can 'call. I bought one. I called in a spike and scored. I won't be able to trythe scentout until Thanksgiving week. Then...I will sit in my Summit for 3 to 4 days. There are hogs there. I have flushed them out a few times. I shot one 3 years ago. I made one very mad last year and he was snorting at me for quite a while about 20 yds away but the thick palmettos kept me from getting a shot. They have actually pooped on my ladder stand there. Serious big tracks and fat turds.;)I'm 3/4 mile off the main road.Ed ...if you are interested I can give you detail directions of the spot so you can try too. Chuck7 |
RE: Hog Scents
Thanks. I may just have to take you up on that!!

RE: Hog Scents
Have you ever hunted the Green Swamp before? If you have ,you know most of the hogs are killed off the 471 entrance along the river. I hunt off of Powder Grade away from the crowd and come to the Green Swamp off of Rock Ridge Road. After I hunt the Thanksgiving break for a few days I'll send you a report of what I saw and an E-mail with detailed. and illuminated tack directions.;)Can I hang the scent out the morning I get there or should it be hanging in the area a few days before I actually hunt?

RE: Hog Scents
You can do either. I usually use the tampon to get them into a shooting lane or to stop at a particular point along a run, but I spray it on the palmettos a good amount so as they move in the breeze it kinda fans the scent out into the area. Just make sure you don't let it blow back at you because you'll never get the smell off you for the rest of the day and it's awful, but they love it!!! If you know the wind is blowing in the direction they usually come from, you can spray it from the treestand into the air and watch the misting cloud float right to them. We use this method to get'em up out of the beds early, butyou have togetlucky with the wind direction!! Good Luck. I;ll be out thanksgiving weekend as well. Back toTosohatchee.

RE: Hog Scents
Maybe we can hunt together sometime. I'll probalbly need to walk you to my spot the first time anyway. Anyway ,I understand your area is very wet. My place in the Green Swamp is not wet. It's between a large palmetto field and a thin row of pines. I set up in a pine.tree To the immediate west side of the pines is a large bayhead 1 mile by 3 miles. A THICK WET BAYHEAD. A hunter was lost in that bayhead last year and never found.
So if I have a couple of spots I may want to choose the right spot to use the wind for my favor in blowing the scent in the right position. Such as the above scenerio. I would want an east wind to blow the scent in the bayhead to lure the hogs out. When I'm sitting in the pine trees I always here them busting through the palmetos and going into the bayhead. when it is still dark.I have kicked them up by accident at the edge of the palmettos close to the pine edge. |
