1st Blackbuck

Got my first blackbuck this last week, I'll post a pic. when I get them.A 200 yard shot with a 7RM shooting 139gr. may have been a bit hot for this little guy, tore him up pretty good. How big is considered big enough to have mounted? Mine went no more than about 14 inches in his horns. It's my first BB and a trophie to me but is 14" a laughable mount or worth the $400.:D

Congrats! And a trophy is different to every person. If you feel it is a trophy by your definition then spend the money and get it mounted. If anyone criticizes your mount then they really do not deserve to be in your house to begin with. A true hunter would respect your decision as to what you would consider a mounter or not. Who knows this may be the only BB you ever get in your life. Opinions are like @$$holes everyone has one. Stick with yours!!!!

Mount it! Mount it! Mount it! I did not mount my first deer because I thought it was too small, I've regreted it ever since. The first of every different species you hunt is special, regardless of size. You'll be glad you did.

Congratulations... the mount will look excellent. I have no idea of what makes a trophy measurementfor that species, but I do know what makes a trophy for me. If I had a memorable hunt, no matter what the horn size or lack of them, it is a trophy to be cherished and remembered for the experience you lived through...

Again, congratulations that animal gets a definite thumbs up in my book!!!

Yeap , have it mounted , unless you intend to go after a bigger one, in that case I would just have it skull mounted... great looking critters, I have one that scored gold medal and has 21 1/4 inch horns..they are very pretty animals..n Congrats

Sounds like I send him to the taxidermist. . . . even got the wife to agree. . . . .

Broadhead. . . .you can bet money that if I do see a bigger Blackbuck while hunitng my lease he will end up in the freezer. . . .:D So, 21" sounds pretty nice. Bet he was a bit darker too. . . . .We will be having a bit of backstrap this weekend, should taste real good, almost no game smell when I was cleaning him up.

Blackbuck antilope are a funny critter when it comes to colors, Its always the most dominate male that is darkest, sometimes they were young with small horns and sometime they were old as rocks..... the one I harvested is very black...and weighed almost 120lbs..

I would not shoulder mount a 14 incher. A big blackbuck starts at 19. Id get it european mounted.

Hunter06flky-Blackbuck can be hunted all over Texas. Partly on high fenced ranches, but also on free ranging property as well. For instance i hunted a little bit in the hill country and saw plenty of exotics on free ranging property. What do you think happens when those high fences get knocked over by flood waters? A good friend of mine has a ranch(free ranging)in the hill countryand the place is crawling with blackbuck. Trophy fees on blackbuck will run from about 1000-1700. Anything more and you are being ripped off.

I hunt on 2300 low fenced acres out in Menard Co., we have these guys running free out here and are a nice extra with lease fees as high as they are. No pigs on this one so I guess these will have to do.

I will mount him for you for $250 and have him to you by X-mas. I have many trophies, some B&C and some not. Some folks are hung up not mounting animals that are not B&C caliber. I would mount it! e-mail me at [email protected] if you want help with the mount. I live in Houston.
