Default Which hog do I take?

I was deer hunting last year, and here they came. A whole bunch of hogs, it sounded like a freight train was coming through the woods. There were about 8-10 black and tan 30 to 40 pound young hogs and one big ole black sow. As bad as I wanted to take the 200-300 pound sow. I picked out one of the yearlings and took him withmy 30-06, perfect shot right in the head. My question is which hog would you have shot? We sure did eat some good pork.
thanks

IMO the smaller they are the better they taste.

Take the little ones, they fit real nice in the smoker or on the pit. If you have time wait for 2 of them to line up and get a twofer. I got a pair that way last year. 1st through the neck and the second through his shield both under 40 lbs. so the .270 had plenty of energy left after the first one to to work fine on number 2.

Anything under 200 lbs is really good to eat, though the little ones are the best. We fed year round and we've shot them up to 550 lbs and they were still really good eating. We normally always have at least two in the freezer at any one time.

We all (Most) like to take a good tusker But the eaters are the small ones. I like the 100-150#s. They give you enough to have a good cook out with family/friends & a little left over. Excellent eating.
