Default Ruger American scratching bullets,cases.

Hi every one, quick question, I have a Ruger American 308 and it is an accurate rifle and I have owned it for a while but it scratchs the bullets and cases. The scratchs on the bullets are very slight horizonta lines and extend like a line going from the base to the tip and the scratchs on the case are all over. My camera is not accurate enough to send a photo.
I realize that this is a cheap rifle and I have had problems with the magazine but with my reloads it is very accurate is there any way to fix this or am I screwed?
Thx for any advice.

My initial thought is that these scratches are coming from the cartridge dragging across the front of the magazine during feeding. Another possibility is that there is a burr on the front of the ejector port but I think that would just scratch the bullet and not the case.
Try feeding a case by dropping it into the chamber being careful not to have it drag across the front of the mag.
Edit: These scratches, unless they are really severe, are just cosmetic and won't effect accuracy.

I have to agree with Clem. Try inserting the bullet manually, close and open the bolt. Are the scratches still there? If not, then its from the clip from chambering and ejecting the round.
