Default Question about finishing a trigger guard

I have a Remington 721 with a 700 bdl trigger guard/hinged floorplate. The one I have now has a matte black finish, but it broke. I found a replacement, but its stainless steel.

Any suggestions on how I should finish it?

I've done several using a metal primer, very light steel wool and then a low-gloss or satin finish enamel.
