RE: 25-06 or 257 Roberts?
My two cents considering i just bought one and faced the same dilemma.........
If you want a heavier longer gun go with the 25-06 to maximize capability of the cartridge and extra power.... If you like a shorter and lighter gun go with the 257 Roberts.... That said I bought a Ruger 25-06 with a 24" heavy sporter barrel on it... Cant wait to get a light rifle in a 257 Roberts now.... |
RE: 25-06 or 257 Roberts?
ORIGINAL: Todd1700 But, it recoils just as much as any 270Win. Federal's 90gr. HP for varmints, and 120gr. bullets for antelope & deer. The 270 back then was also a Ruger 77, and shot 130gr. Darned if I could tell any difference in recoil between the two. Heck, it's only 10gr. difference in bullet weights! |

RE: 25-06 or 257 Roberts?
DANG!!! I forgot about that.:D I must have meant the 6.5x55 AI. Or the 6.5X99 RUM.;)

RE: 25-06 or 257 Roberts?
The reason for going to the 26s is that someday you might want to shoot somethin' bigger'n a deer. Heavier bullets for more penetration are available. :)

RE: 25-06 or 257 Roberts?
trying to be polite here and not bust on anyone.........but how can recoil be an issue here? If you shoot a 25-06 or a .270 and think that the recoil from either of these rifles is noticable enough not to choose it, then maybe you are in the wrong sport. I own both a 25-06 and a .270 and when I shoot them, its a relief for me. Most of the time I am shooting a 7mm Rem mag or a .300 RUM at the range, so the smaller 06 casing guns are a vacation for me. Just my opinion!!!!

RE: 25-06 or 257 Roberts?
I have to agree with mossy, calibers 7mm rem mag and under the recoil is nothing for me hardly notice it or as mossy says a vacation. LOL as a waterfowler and turkey hunter Ive shot a ton with my 10 ga and 12 ga with 3.5 inch magnums after you shoot enough of those after awhile you dont even notice recoil. I think its funny and get a kick out of people at the range who are shooting a 30-06 and stop after 5 shots because the recoil is to much, then theres me with my springfield 03-a3 and Russian M44 and in a day at the range its normal for me to shoot 40 or 50 rounds with each rifle in tank top with the steel buttplates against my bare shoulder and not even be bothered a bit by the recoil. Im sure it helps though the fact Im 6' 7" 300 lbs and the fact im a recoil junky, Im always lookin for something thats kicks harder. Bout the only thing ive found sofar thats literally kicks the cr@p outta my shoulder is pulling both triggers on a double barrel loaded with 00 buckshot even then it hurts my hand more then my shoulder LOL.

something thats kicks harder. Try a BLR chambered in 450 Marlin, I'm a recoil junkie myself, but this little rifle is just darned unpleasant to shoot. Never found anything I found unpleasant to fire up to and including the dreaded 460 Weatherby, but this one......OUCH![:'(] |
RE: 25-06 or 257 Roberts?
ROTFLMAO talking about recoil with those 2 wimpy cartridges. PULEAZE
