What do you mean "how good is it"? Kills deer real good. pushes a 140gr bullet around 2800fps.

A 7mm-08 is just a 308 necked down to 7mm. It is a very good, mild round. It does not have the power of the 3-06, 300, but for deer it will certainly get the job done. And it is very pleasant to shoot.

I have a new one in the NEF Handi Rifle. It shoots good with 140 grain Corlokts. I have not used it for hunting yet but plan to load the 120 grain Sierra Pro-Hunter bullets at about 2800 fps. Thats about the same load I shoot in the 280 for deer.

I love my Remington 7m-08. I could shoot that rifle all day and never get sick of it. It did a great job a couple years back on a Wisconsin 8 pointer- 160lbs field dressed. I don't know if it is the best deer cailber around, but it groups incredible and is easy shooting.

I used mine for the first time in the field this past year and shot my biggest buck to date with it. I never take neck shots, but this deer didn't offer me much of a shot as he was moving quite rapidly through the woods. He stopped only briefly and I had to take the shot. The buck dropped on the spot. The bullet was a 140 grain Nosler Ballistic tip. I fell in love with this rifle at that point. It has always been very accurate at the range, but now I see it has the power to knock em down too. Might just be putting the old 270 to rest after using the 7mm 08.
