I been carryin a 270 for a long time deer hunting and they do a fine job. You will have a hard time finding a better gun for whitetails.

Im only 26 and to tell the truth, down here in my woods; the longest shot is about 100yards. And I have killed more deer with my old 200dollars 30/30 marlin than all the other guns in my closet. 30/30 just doesnt have the range, and if you ever get to where you can get teh 200+ yard shot the 270 will not let you down. Also on the
For out of the box accuracy and the finest standard trigger out there, you won't beat the Savage
I will say my Winchester has a stiff trigger out of box. but i can constantly put 5 rounds inside 1" at 100&200 yards. Let us know what you get. Also get you a good reliable scope on top of your rifle. And no matter what gun you go with you will enjoy it im sure.

Call me old fashioned but I like a .308 for deer. I know more bullet than what is needed but you can also turn around if you get the opertunaty and easily hunt larger game such as moose with it.

Plus you can get .308 ammo on the cheep everywhere.

I like your choice of gun. I have had my Savage 110LC for 22 years and it is still one of the most accurate guns in my stable.

I'd have to agree that you can't beat the Savage out of the box. My preferences lie in other directions right now, i.e. I prefer a hinged floorplate over a blind magazine, s/s over blued, synthetic over wood that sort of stuff. That's not to say I don't own any wood stocked blued guns, most of what I own is. The 270 is a great cartridge, manageable recoil, flat shooter and IMO capable of taking most game in NA with the exception of the big bears. I personally would go for the 06, much better selection of factory loads that can be found at the most remote of locations. Not to mention that the 06 will do anything the 7mm mag or 3.. winmag will do just a couple hundred fps slower. I'd suggest checking pawn shops and the used racks, with the money you save buy a better scope.

Hello young man. If it were me, I would purchase a new Winchester mod 70 in 30'06. This is a rifle for a lifetime and who knows where lady luck will take you. If you have a chance at a big Bull Moose or Elk someday, the '06 is the one and the new Winchesters are rapidly gaining a strong reputation (I don't own one, I'm a Sako guy). The local gun baron....a remington man, claims the new Mod 70's are superior to the pre 64's. A fellow posted the 270 has been around for a long time, but the'06 has been around for over 100 years. Don't get confused by all this and keep asking the same question.... it will soon be clear. Good luck and regards, Rick.

The Savage rifle in 270Win. will do just fine for deer hunting. Ammo is readily available most anywhere, and not too expensive. Recoil is mild. The Savage is a good gun for the money. The Winchester may look a little nicer, but not likely to shoot any better, and generally costs quite a bit more. Save your money, and invest in good quality scope.
As to range with a 270Win., as noted it is certainly capable of some long range shooting
(400+ yds.), but unless you're practiced at those distances it's best to hold your shots to
300yds. or less - preferrably less.
My own personal favorite for a 270Win., though more expensive than a Savage, is the
Remington 700 LSS Mountain Rifle. Shoots real good too.
Check it out;

.270 would be an excellent choice my man. plenty of power and ammo is available pretty much everywhere, even Wal-Mart. In fact, while you're there, check out the Remington Model 700 ADL's on sale for 321.00!!! Remington is closing out the line sad to say but why not take advantage of this great sale while it last. You could even take the money you saved on this rifle and slap it into a nice stock from Boyd's.
