Default Who owns a Marlin 1895 CB?

I have just purchased one of these little beauts and have yet to try it out. Has anybody had any experiance with them and also do you handload for it? Whats your favorite factory or handload for it? Thanks alot for any information.

I didn't have the cowboy but I had the shorter version 1895 with the 22 inch barrel. The Marlin will handle all factory loads in 45-70. I assume you have the 45-70. I shot black bears with mine. I loaded the 350 grain Hornady to about 1850 fps. Any good factory 300 grain or 405 grain will do well for deer and blackies. I wore mine out and traded it in but they are great guns.

I have a 1895 in .450 Marlin and love it. Everybody who shoots it tries to get it from me. Right now I just use factory loads and they shoot great, but I'm getting ready to buy some dies for it and start handloading for it. Once you get used to the gun you should really like it. They are great little guns really handy in thick brush.

I have a CB and for hunting I also use the 350 gr. Hornady loaded to a little over 1900 Ft. per sec.
For cowboy shoots I use a 385 gr. lead bullet over XMP5744. Shoots great!
Did an action job and it reallly works nice.

I have the shorter version 1895 in .44 Rem Mag. It's the older version that has a 10 round tube mag. I use it for whitetails with 240 gr. JHP's and Hogden 4227 powder.

I also load 240 gr. wad cutters. Slow them down to 650 - 700 fps so they don't lead up the barrel. Almost no recoil and with 10 shots in the pipe it's a great little plinker!

Basically they are all the same. I have a 336 in 35 Rem, an 1895 Guide Gun in .45-70 and an 1894 CB in .44. All are well made rifles and are extremely reliable. I've taken deer with the 35, black bear with the 45-70 and a whole bunch of cans and paper with the .44
