I hate to ask but why not get a new one? They are very affordable and I can see you spending that much less on a used one in good condition.
When I bought my "used" 10/22 I actually paid more for it than a brand new one it was an early one w/o the barrel warnings and all, better wood ect...

The reason I want a used one is to custom make my own 10/22. I just need an action and I will get custom parts for the rest. I don't want to buy a new one and trash everything except the action, I feel this is a waste of a good rifle. If I can get a used one for less than the cost of a new one I will be better off even if the action needs some work.

Very seldom see them used for a price that is any better than buying a new one at a Dick's or WalMart (shudder)[:'(] Dick's is usually $160 and occasionally has a sale for $130. It's what most of us use for build-ups. The bbl and stock can be sold off on eBay for a few bucks.

I managed to find a used one for sale at Gander MT. for $79 and of course I snagged it.
HYDE, what barrel you planning on using? I have one with Hogue Stock and a BC barrel and haven't decided what to use on the next one.
