Things are slow around here so time to stir the pot some more now that I am Brazen. Who makes the most rugged rifle in your opinion and why? You know something you can jump out of a hanglider with .

For pure, unadulterated abuse, I can think of two. A Remington 700, and Steyr's SBS Prohunter.

I would probably have to say the Ruger 77 would be at the top of the list and probably any Mauser CRF variant .

My limited experience is that the old Sakos (L591/691s) are very solid. Put mine through a lot of abuse in the last 10 years and no hiccups. Had it go in the creek with me a couple of years ago thrown about 15 feet. Took it home, cleaned it , shot it that afternoon-no problems.

It would be hard not to argue that the 1898 Mauser the 1903 Springfield and the 1917 Enfield at at the top.......at least they're proven in an environment like no other!!
