If I were to buy one I would choose the .270 WSM, that would make a great long range deer gun. My brother in law owns a .300 WSM and he loves it.

Of all the short mags out, the 270 WSM is the only one that really interested me. It's the only one that's really unique in what it can do. The 300's and the 7's are don't really offer anything to me that will better their older forefathers. The guns aren't really that lighter, a short action 700 bdl stainless is roughly only a 1/4 pound lighter than the standard mag bdl., less than that actually, a whopping 4 ounces maybe. Now the 270 WSM, with the only rival being the 270 Weatherby, which isn't the most popular out there, that's a new twist on a great bullet size. Something different.

I agree, the .270WSM is the best option in my mind. It also shows the most improvement over the older/taller rounds. Thats the one I would go with.

Industry wise the 300WSM is the sales leader. But you see the 270WSM taking ALOT of sales east of the Mississippi. I agree with the notion that the 7WSM is dead. Rems 7 has become the magnum of choice the world over within the last 20+ years. But I think you have to realize some market FACTS with regards too calibers and sales. The 30caliber is North America's BABY! Has been for ALONG time and that isn't likely to change anytime soon. With regards too the 270WSM, I think its perceived as more of a "deer" caliber and as a result will see strong continued sales. But in Europe the 7mm is as engrained too them as the 30 is here stateside. Thats why you saw Beretta add the 7WSM too the Sako for 05. They wont sell more than a few hundred at best in the America's. But if the WSMs catch on in Europe (which remains to be seen) you can bet the 7 will be the lead dog.

As for the 325, it will have its niche and that niche will typically entail local hunters taking elk/moose sized game while seeking a smaller, more compact rig with such power.

ps
To behonest though I can't imagine a 300WSM with 180 Triple Shocks not doing ANYTHING that a 130 270WSM or a 225 325 WSM doing.
